Will Saratoga Standard Studio be available?

My husband and I are doing the Dopey during Marathon Weekend in 2018. It will just be the 2 of us and SSR is our home resort. We will only have 37 points left for 2017 (October use year) and instead of borrowing from 2018 (since that will make us short on points for our summer 2018 trip), thought of buying some one-time use points from Disney (we will need 24). However, these can only be bought over the phone, no earlier than 7 months in advance, correct? I'm wondering if I wait until 9:00 am on 7 months out, if the standard view studio will even still be available? I know Marathon weekend is a busy time for DvC and it will be very close to New Year's in 2018.

No real way to know, but the rundisney times are very busy.

I p3ersonally would just borrow, then use OTU points for the summer trip unless that one would be even harder to get.

I thought you could buy one time points at 11 months for you home resort. I could be wrong. And you have a fighting chance of the SSR studio at 7 months.

One-time-use points may be used for Disney Vacation Club accommodations in the 7-month booking window. One-time-use points may not be used for Home Resort Priority. A Member may purchase one-time-use Vacation Points for Disney Collection and World Collection reservations, provided the booking window for that trip is open (for example, Disney Cruise Line reservations may be open up to 2 years in advance). One-time-use Vacation Points may not be purchased for Concierge Collection reservations.

That might be a better idea. If I booked online 5 nights from august 24-29 at somewhere beside my home resort, I could call on January 24 to purchase those points and add the last 2 days (august 30 and 31), right? I wouldn't need to wait until January 30?

I would probably borrow for marathon weekend and buy at the 7 month mark for summer. You'll have a chance at SSR def. But we went for marathon last year and I had hoped to switch to aklv at 7mth and there was nothing (can't tell you if there was SSR because I had that booked at 11 mth so didn't check). But we also go in su met and at 7 mth have no problem picking from a decent selection of resort

Agree. Borrow for marathon.

While traditionally Saratoga is among the last to book for marathon weekend, that weekend's gotten tougher. August is still DVC low season.

For this year's marathon, I booked 7months out and the only thing available was SSR preferred. I was looking for a 2BR, but I'd think studios would be at least as hard.

Odds seem pretty good, but with the recent change to standard/preferred, the standard rooms tend to book up first. Will you be able to purchase enough points for a preferred room?

I'm really trying to go as "cheap" as possible so I don't really want to spend the extra points in a preferred room.
