Will photographers take a photo with your camera?

Hi there,

I am wondering if the photographers on board will take a photo with your camera the way the photopass ones will in the park?

Thanks.

When we had our pictures taken with characters on the ship the photographer wouldn't use our camera but the character attendant used our camera to take pictures.

I would say Yes when I was on the Wonder. The main photographer takes a picture and a helper will take your camera for a second photo.

IMO.... just put your camera away and let the pro's use theirs.... especially if you are buying their photo package.
  • The DCL staff have softboxes and powered lighting that can surpass any iPhone image.
  • Even if you have your own DSLR, their softboxes are setup to offer much better diffused lighting.
  • it just slows the process down when staff have to take pictures with a second camera, eyeballs are everywhere, you need to wait 10 seconds for the stupid flash to charge and they have to find the shutter release as every camera has it located in a different spot.

But do bring your camera everywhere you go on the ship. There are surprise events and characters can appear without the staff photographers nearby.

Yes, we were on the Dream in July and they took pictures with our camera.

The character handlers will but the photographers will not. They are contracted, not Disney employees like in the parks with Photopass.

Completely disagree with xlxo above. We don't think the quality of the photographers is that great. Only have ever purchased one photo. Depends on what your standards are I suppose.

I was hoping someone would be willing to take our pictures as I think they are too expensive to purchase..

We've had variable luck with both the on-board photography as well as the character handlers getting good photos. The best photos we've had from the Shutters photographers have been with the backdrops, not the characters - I think they have more control over the setting that way. The characters didn't usually seem to have the best lighting, and people move, making shots blurry even with the good cameras.

I've gotten some okay photos myself, and some okay ones from the character handlers, but since there are so may different cameras, sometimes the shots aren't great. Make sure you have everything adjusted and set up for them before getting into the shot, and you have a better chance.

We don't get family portraits often, so we usually spring for the CD on the ship to ensure we get some good shots and photos for our christmas cards. We figure we'd probably spend the same amount for a local photographer to do similar pictures, so why not just add that budget to our trip budget and have great memories as well? :goodvibes

No, the photographers will not take photos with your camera. They are independently hired and want to sell photos, hence, their refusal to take pictures with your camera. However, the character handlers (who are Disney cast members) will be happy to take pictures with your camera.

Just another piece of advice, if your camera is set up to take multiple shots at once do that and it will increase your odds of getting a good shot. Usually the character handlers would only take 1 or 2 pictures with our camera but with my camera set on taking multiple shots at once we had a lot to pick from and it didn't take any additional time.

Agree to have the photographers take the photos. We had well over 300 photos on our last cruise and planned ahead to purchase the packet. Cherished memories without my thumb covering the photo! :-)
