I reserved our car before I got our airline tickets. I got 12 days for $268.00 and can't get anywhere near that price when I check it now. Well, I have the car reserved for pick up at 11:30am but now I have our airline tickets and we won't get to Orlando until around 5:00pm. So, will National still honor our reservation?

Before I called them and get an answer I'm afraid to hear, I just thought I would see if anyone had any experiences with this. In the past when I've called National, they've screwed up my reservation and it took about 2 hours to get it straightened up. I wasn't in the mood to have to go through that again so just looking for any experiences...

mary, do yourself and family a favor, book with someone else! my friend raves about L&M who are a local company right next to national at the airport. i totally regret not taking her advice and going with them.

I have rented from National many times and have had few problems with them. When we got a car in Sacramento, CA last March, we were over charged but since my husband was the one who returned the car he didn't know what the charge was supposed to be. So, when I got home I called National. They looked up my reservation on the computer and credited my charge with no problem. So, sorry, I plan to stick with National. I've found them to be much cheaper then anyone else. And really have no complaints considereing how many times I've used them!!! I just want to know if anyone has had problems picking up a reservation late? That's all I'm asking!!! Please only respond if you can answer my question...

One of the first times I used National I had counter service and asked the question about how long will they hold a car if a flight is late. They told me reservations are held until midnight. I would just call and confirm.

I don't know for sure but I think they will hold it as long as you are paying for it all those 6 hours you are late. They shouldn't care. I'd just call and let them know and I'll bet it's not a problem.

Hotels hold a room if you're late as long as you tell them...

I'd be afraid that if you try and change the time, you'll get a higher rate, whatever the rate is right now. I tried to add a day and they were going to charge me the current rate for the whole reservation which was much higher than what I already had. Maybe changing it by a few hours would be different though.

Good luck!

Thanks beattyfamily!! I had a similar situation with National. That's why I thought I would ask before calling!!! By the way...I believe we are on the same cruise together...Dec 6 on the Wonder? I recognize your name form the cruise list for the same date!!!!
We can't wait!!! We're counting the days. Thank goodness I have a very busy summer. That should help keep my mind off of the trip...Yeah Right!!!!

That's right! We are! I thought I recognized your name, too, from somewhere.

We're on Deck 6 room 6556.

It will be me, my husband, and my 2 DD age (in Dec) 5 and 2 .

I know, we have a pretty busy summer too so I'm hoping it will go by fast enough.

Are you just doing the cruise? I guess not now that I re-read your original post about having the car for 12 days.

We're doing Universal for 2 days arriving Thursday, November 29 at 8:30 p.m. and then doing WDW from Sunday December 2 thru December 6 when we'll leave for the 3-day cruise; can't wait! This is the first time we're going via DVC points and that's why we're making it a vacation to remember and then we probably won't go again till at least 2003.

I'm rambling. Sorry, but it's a small world isn't it?!

Let us know if you call National what happens.

We have our reservation from Nov 29 at 9:00 p.m. through Dec. 9 at 9:00 p.m. even though we will probably turn it in at 12:30ish because they base it on 24 hour periods. I've got the 10 days at $211. I'm hoping it will go down. Your rate is pretty good!

I called National and was able to change pick up and drop off time with no change in cost. Thank goodness!!!
I was afraid they would lose my reservation...it's happened before. I also asked them to send me a copy of the confirmation!!! So, I got 12 days for $268.00. I would still like to get better but certainly won't complain!!!!
Laura,
We arrive in Orlando on Nov 29 also!!!! Our flight gets in around 5:00pm or so. We are spending the first part of our trip in WDW then off to the cruise. Room 7565. That just above you except we have an inside stateroom. It will be me, DH and two DDs, ages (in Dec) 7 & 9. Afetr the cruise we have two nights booked at the Radisson at the Port. We'll spend the day after the cruise at Kennedy Space Center and go home on Dec 11. This is our last big trip to WDW as I won't take our older one out of school after that. And I don't like to go to WDW during busy times.

National will hold reservation without a problem for "late" arrival. In January, my DW and I were delayed at O'Hare for 6 or 7 hours (as time goes on, the length of the delay gets longer and longer, I'm afraid). Once we knew we would be late, I called National to check on the situation, concerned about losing the car. They indicated that MCO is a 24-hour operation, so there should not be a problem even if we arrived well into the night. This turned out to be true, although we did end up with a short-term billing snafu. Our reservation was based on a weekly rate which requires a 5-day minimum. With our original arrival time, we were about 2 hours into the 5-day period, so we "qualifed" for the weekly rate rather than the higher daily rate. With the late pick-up, we ended up with a 4-day rental instead. This actually inflated the rate by about $50. When dropping off the car, I had to go to the counter (I hate that ;) ) and get the service agent to adjust the bill. She was very cooperative, finally adjusting the daily rate to force the computer to make the total for the rental come out the same as our printed confirmation, even though we did not satisfy the contract condition by meeting the minimum rental period requirement.

Since you are dealing with a much longer period of time, you should not run into a problem like this one. You will still qualify for the same weekly rate with whatever other discounts are included. I would simply show up when you arrive. Flights are delayed all the time due to weather, equipment problems, etc., so you would hardly be the first one.
