Will Member Services automatically combine 2 reservations?

I am planning a split stay next November (between AKV and Poly). I just booked the first part of my stay at AKV, which is my home resort. Tomorrow I'm planning to book an additional 5 nights at AKV (same room type) as a back-up, with the hope that I can change that reservation to the Poly at my 7th month mark. Will MS automatically convert my two reservations to one? I'd prefer to keep them separate to make things easier for me when I try to convert one of them to the Poly. I don't have enough points to book the Poly before canceling another reservation (without borrowing), so I'm hoping to keep the two reservations!

I would have the 2nd reservation in another name/version of your name, or a person traveling with you. That way you have 2 separated reservations. If later on you can't book the poly, just call MS and have the 2 AKV reservations linked so you don't have to change rooms.

Excellent suggestion! Thank you!

Highly unlikely they would. I do this frequently and have never had them combine. But then I rarely get them to combine when they fill a waitlist either - apparently I'm on the do not combine list.

Me, too! :)

But others are on the "always combine" list, and alas you don't know what list you're on until after it's combined. So book the two reservations slightly differently to make sure they don't look the same.

I used this technique for a similar situation. I had originally booked Jambo for 2 nights and VGF for 4 nights, but after recently staying at both BCV and AKV -- I cancelled the AKV and tried to get into BCV. I was able to get the first night BCV and have waitlisted the 2nd night. That 2nd night was available at VGF (same room type as the other 4 nights), so I went ahead and booked it, but added a different name for one of the guests and for the last month, it has not tried to combine the two VGF reservations.

Bonus of adding a different person is another magic band (and if there are tix linked to that person -- extra FP+ selections!).

If the waitlist doesn't come through, I'll call MS and adjust the persons in the room to the correct names and have them link the reservations so I don't have to mess with re-checking in.

I have done the split reserving at one resort at 11 months out a number of times. MS does not combine any two reservations absent your specifc request to do so.

I'd book it in a different name, they will often combine reservations but not always. I've had this happen several times within the last few months.

On my last trip in November for F&W, they automatically combined my two BCV reservations. I originally had one day at BWV and the other day at BCV -- but then my waitlist came through for BCV. I did nothing and they combined them together as a single booking.

They totally do and have done so. There was a thread a few months ago wherein I noticed I'm about the only one it has NOT happened to. Most others, however, have had it happen. You've gotten lucky if you wanted to keep them separate.

So, I just had a waitlist finish filling today. Same room, same resort etc....MS set it up as a separate reservation.

I'm still on the "do not combine" list.

At some point I'll call MS to have them merged into a single reservation.

Normally when they've done so in my situation, it didn't happen at the same time as the wait list fill. I get the sense it's a different group that works on this issue. Give it a couple of weeks and see if you can.

Yes, this is for the summer so I don't need to have it combined anytime soon. I'll give it a bit of time and see if that happens.
