Will member services always switch points used from current UY to banked if asked?

Hi all. We’ve owned for a year now so still figuring out the ropes. For our first trip, DVC member services allowed us to originally book with 2023 UY points and then when we decided to bank our 2022 points (within the banking window), they freed up our 2023 points and applied the banked 2022 points to our existing reservation instead. Was that a new member courtesy, or can you always do that? For example, we have 79 remaining 2023 points (Oct UY). Slim chance we’ll use them before Oct, but maybe. We are planning an October trip for sure though, so debating if I should bank now or book with Oct 2024 points knowing I can bank in a couple months and free up some 2024 points then. Thanks!

You can do that yourself online. After you bank, go to modify the reservation. Don’t change anything and continue until you select the points. It’ll use your banked points and release your non-banked ones.

Just be careful not to modify under 30 days from check in.

Super helpful! Thank you! Banking deadline is end of May and trip will be October so point change will be 4+ months before the trip.

Correct. Any changes to a reservation less than 31 days from check in will result in holding points if you free up points.
