Will juice boxes explode in a carry-on?

Starting to think about what to bring on the plane for my two young children. I have heard stories about juice boxes/sodas exploding because of the change of pressure. Would it be all right to bring juice boxes in a carry-on. Has anyone done this? They don't explode inside the cabin do they? Have never flown with kids, this will be quite the experience, I am sure.

Why in the world would juice boxes explode in an airplane?? The cabins are pressurized...they serve canned drinks and juice boxes (large size) on planes all the time....I suppose if the cabin lost pressure you might conceivably have issues....but exploding juice boxes would be the least of my concerns if the cabin lost pressure!!

I can speak from experience that Capri Suns do explode especially when you go to insert the straw we had red juice everywhere..

The box is not exploding -- what is happening is that when you push the straw into the bag, you are inadvertently applying pressure around the bag with your hand/straw. It's that pressure that is forcing the beverage up your straw (This is not a CapriSun issue -- it's common with all beverages of this type).

I understand that but it still is messy and so are juice boxes...take a sippy cup with you instead..

I found out in June that filled sippy cups leak in airplanes! I had two of the playtex sippy cups filled with juice/water. Half way through the flight I went into the diaper bags and both leaked all over everything. I never had a problem with these particular cups before and have used them again since with out a leak.

I had a similair problem witht eh cups that have straws in them.. the key is that you have to unscrew the cup to release the air before letting the kids drink out of them..Do this once you are leveled off and you should be ok...

I should have mentioned this in my earlier post -- my trick is to put my thumb over the end of the straw when inserting it in the box or bag. This way no liquid can squirt out !

Bring a safety pin. Hold the juice box upright and use the safety pin to poke where the straw goes. Then insert the straw. Better, poke several holes in a tiny row and it will now be easier to insert the straw with less squeeze related squirting. Also use the safety pin to poke the top of the salad dressing container just before you open that container (if the airline still serves food)

Any kind of drink container might have a weak spot that leaks at airplane cruising altitude cabin pressure. Some containers have a peel off top layer, this has a higher failure rate than poke in straw juice boxes.
