Will Jiko at AKL Ruin Me for Cruise Food?

Ok...I posed this question at the Cruise Boards but I would love DVC'ers opinions....

I'm trying to figure out where to eat for our precruise 1 night stay. Since we're staying at AKV Kidani, I figured Jiko is the way to go. Having never eaten at Jiko or on the DCL cruise---please tell me----Will eating at Jiko before the cruise make me think that the DCL cruise food is not good?

The reviews on Jiko's food/menu look amazing. I know that cruise food is mass produced....I'm sure I'd enjoy it in general, but I don't want to be mentally comparing if there is a huge disparity.

Can someone who's eaten at Jiko tell me if you think I should save it for after the cruise?

Jiko food is better than DCL main dining room food.

I'm not one to be 'spoiled' by a meal the previous day. Sometimes I want steak, and sometimes a hamburger is just right.

If you are into food. Eat at Palo. Palo will 'spoil' you for the main dining room anyway, so the Jiko point is moot.

I'm sorry. I would never pass up a chance to eat at Jiko or Boma for that matter. Enjoy the meal at AK Lodge and then enjoy your meals on the cruise.

And I can't argue with the previous post either, Palo is a do not miss. :thumbsup2

I also responded on your other thread. Jiko is good but IMHO it's not ALL THAT. I think it's overpriced and Boma is just as good if not better. It is NOT LIKE ANY OF THE FOOD YOU WILL FIND ON THE SHIP so you cannot really compare it to what you will have on DCL which is more traditional American flavors. All of the restaurants at AK (Boma, Jiko and Sanaa) are very, very different and their menus reflect the different flavors & spices found in African and Indian cooking. DCL offers nothing like that. So there is no way it's going to ruin anything because there is just no comparison in the styles. We always especially enjoy our meals in Lumiere's / Triton's and Palo. But again, there is no comparison between.

FWIW if you're staying in Kidani I would recommend Sanaa over Jiko. It is more reasonably priced and frankly, I enjoyed it more.

I love Jiko.. almost as much as Sanaa.
In contrast, the only food I liked on the cruise was Palo.

We loved both Jiko and Sanaa but loved Sanaa more. Sanaa is a little different then what you get at jiko I would say try for Sanaa for that one night .

IMHO:

Palo > Jiko > Triton's/Lumiere's > Animator's Palate > Parrot Cay

Palo is one of the best restaurants I've ever eaten at in my life. Jiko is one of the best restaurants I've eaten at WDW.

Opinions are will be all over the map for this. We did not love Jiko. We loved Boma's. It is impossible to predict because it depends on your tastes and what you word. I like Boma's because I can eat a variety of new foods and double down an what I love.

At Jiko, if you pick the wrong one your sunk. Jiko has a better atmosphere though. IMHO I would go with Boma's.

While we loved Jiko, we did not particularly like Boma.

I was so ready to like it, too! However, much of the food just tasted like bland buffet food, and everything seemed to have cinnamon in it. A little cinnamon goes a long way.

My son loved it, though.

Oh no! I was going to try Boma for our 1 pre cruise night. To be honest, I've decided to buy the DxDP during my September trip in order to try more restaurants out . . . if its just me and DH and we hate it, it's better than having everyone in my family hating a restaurant I end up picking for our family trip in December...at least I'll know ahead of time...now I'm always on the dining reservations system. I never realized that getting dining reservations was so competitive!
