Will I regret switching from All Star Movies to Saratoga Springs?

Hi all,

Was going to Movies for free dining but was able to snag a Saratoga Springs studio for $228 with a certificate from Interval. I've been reading complaints about bus service. Will I be sorry?

Thanks!

I don't think so. We stayed there in 2005 in the Springs section which was close to the main pool, restaurant etc. We really liked it, it's a beautiful resort, and we had no problems with the bus service.

We were there in February, and thought the busses were fine. We asked for a room close to a stop, and it seemed that they arrived in a reasonable amount of time. Also, since the resort isn't as popular as some, the bus lines at park closings were not as long either. Sometimes we returned with a half full bus because the next one was ready to pull up.

This will be our 3rd September staying at the All Stars.
The last two times we stayed there during free dining I found the buses were running very well.
We stay for a week -10 days.
Last year the buses came about every 10 minutes and our All Star Music bus only shared with Movies 1 time on the way to the parks. That was the only time we shared a bus on the way to the parks. And the reason we went to Movies was because that morning our bus was less than half full. The bus before ours had pulled just a couple minutes before ours came.
On the way back sometimes we shared but it was not a big deal. Just a couple extra minutes.

To me Bus Sharing at the All Stars is really a non issue.

In the mornings during Park opening hours each All Star usually has a dedicated bus.
During mid day it is usually just our stop and maybe one more on the way to the parks. On the way back sometimes it is all 3 but often Sports and Music share and Movies has it's own bus back. Each of the All Stars usually has it's own dedicated bus back from the MK.
That is a big plus. It seems like the Music bus stop usually has the shortest of the three All Star bus lines.

I guess some people who stay at POP see all 3 All Star names on the return sign of our bus stop when they head to the POP bus stop and think All Stars also has 3 stops on the way to the park.
(Even when we stop at another AS resort to load up it has not taken more than 5 minutes and we are on our way!)

That being said I think that $228 is a great price for SSR plus you would also get to stay at a Deluxe with Deluxe amenities!

Have fun at Disney wherever you choose to stay!:wizard:

Value resort or DVC resort. For me there's no question which one I would rather stay in. I've stayed in Value, Moderate and Deluxe before joining DVC and to me you will not be sorry with your choice. Good luck and have fun! :)

if you use DME - then order some groceries. all SSR villa have a kitchen if a studio then a kitchennett.

the problem is the bus is the size of the place. it is big. It has only 5 bus stops - but they are spread out.

here is a map

Now I think it could use a few more - but I am in the minority. It can be along walk to some of its bus stops.

what did you get - studio, one or two bedroom?

no food court - although SSR has sort of one, more expensive prices.

Really?!?! So if you buy a bottle of Coke, a bag of chips, and a grilled chicken sandwich at the food court at SSR, it's more expensive that at the All-Stars? I had no idea!!!

There is no food court at SSr but they have the Turf Club Bar and Grill Turf Club Bar and Grill.

A grilled chicken sandwich at the Turf Club :

I got a studio at SSR. I'm going to purchase the dining plan, so no groceries for me. It will be me and my 5 year old. As I understand, there is a counter service place at SSR called Arist Palette. I saw the menu on AllEars. It looks very good. You guys are making me feel very good about my choice. I gave up free dining for this, but since it was only $228 plus the $95 resort fee plus about $350 for the dining plan, it comes out to the same I was spending for All Stars. I'm so excited. I can't wait! Now I'm going to have to buy DVC I'm afraid, lol. I have a Marriott timeshare now, that's how I got this, but I've been looking at DVC.

How many nights were included in the $228 certificate from Interval?
5,6 or 7?

It's for 7 nights. That's all II deals with. I got a bonus week for depositing my Aruba unit, that's why it only cost $228.

You're comparing TS and CS prices. Not really a valid comparison.

The sandwiches at Artist's Palette, SSR's counter service place, range in price from about $5.59 to $7.29.

Sorry ,my mistake I was looking for Grilled Chicken sandwiches at each location since Laugh O. Grams asked if Grilled Chicken sandwich would cost more at SSR than at All Star Movies.

Thanks for pointing out to me that the Turf Club is a TS not a CS.

I too own at the Marriott in Aruba (Ocean Club). My sis own at the Surf - I went one year with her loved it and purchased a resale when I got home. I also own DVC and Wilderness Lodge Villas is my home resort. Don't be surprised if you end up owning DVC after your stay. In my opinion, it is the Cadillac of timeshares with weekend stays, $100 off APs, and amenities that can't be beat. Where else can you get off the plane, have them get your luggage and take you to the resort and then bus you everywhere you want to go once you get there. Have a great time and enjoy SSR.
