Will I regret going on these rides? (or not going?)

I'm down to the wire - 2 weeks to go after 200+ days of planning our first trip. I've been watching some youtube videos of rides with my son to get us excited about some things we'll see and experiece. It isn't spoiling the suprise, but he is getting to learn names and parks, which is pretty neat.

I've read all the ride threads and searched, and maybe I am freaking myself out, but I'm worried about riding a few of the rides now. For some reason, when I started planning, I thought, "This is Disney World. It's for kids, so the rides will be easy and cute." I think I am wrong about that. I am nervous for myelf and my DS5 about these rides:

Mission Space Green
Star Tours
Soarin'

My DS has thrown up before due to motion sickness twice: Once, on a small boat in Grand Cayman, bobbing up and down and side, riding out to see the stingrays. He was 2 1/2. The second tim was on a wild car ride on a famous road for motorcycles, something like 300 hairpin curves in 11 miles, up and down hills. He made it the whole ride, starting lauging, and when we stopped after about 30 minutes, up it came.
He has done spinning tea-cup type rides before, and those giant swings at fairs, and had a blast. He is not afraid of darkness or thrills.

Will he survive those three rides above? I'm a little worried about Star Tours but he LOVES Star Wars so I'm wondering if the awesomeness will override the rest?

And, what about me - am I going to survive those three rides? I cannot tolerate spinning rides at fairs, or very intense roller coasters. IMAX films are iffy, but I can look to the side for a moment and I'll make due. I know I will never go on MS Orange. Will I make it on the other three?

I get horribly motion sick and have my entire life. It has gotten to the point where most of the time I can't even sit in the backseat of a car on a straight road without feeling like I'm going to get sick. That being said, I have never felt that way on any Disney World and Disneyland ride. I haven't ridden Mission Space, but I've gone on Star Tours and Soarin' (Over California at DCA) hundreds of times and always felt completely normal after. I always make sure I take a break after Star Tours just in case though.

I've found that Bonine (non drowsy Dramamine) helps a lot. There are chewable tablets that last all day.

I would avoid mission space. Star Tours and Soarin could go either way depending on how much you child like thrill rides.

It's a guess of course but I'd say that you'll both be fine on Soarin'. My DH can't do spin rides, is easily sea sick & car sick. He did just fine on Soarin'.

On the other hand he can't do Star Tours (has gotten sick after) & won't even try Mission Space. Mission Space Green & Star Tours are the same type of movements/screen ride so if you try one of them and it doesn't work, don't do the other!!!

First and foremost: when you're on a motion simulator, never, ever take your eyes off the screen. You will get sick.

When we went in 2009, the only ride I didn't ride was Mission:SPACE and I really regretted it. The next trip I rode the orange side and it was fine.

Take some motion sickness medicine with you and give it a shot.

My DS gets motion sickness as well (Started at age 2 also, in basic car rides!). He can NOT do Tea Cups at all, but he has ridden Soarin' and Star Tours both, many many many times since age 5 (he's now 11) and he's never had any issue on Soarin'. I think we had a couple close calls on Star Tours, but he loves Star Wars so much, that he is never willing to bypass it, so it must not be too bad. It seems to affect him more if he's hungry. Also, Space Mtn, for some reason really upset his stomach at age 5 and has refused to ride it ever since. No other coaster bothers him. Weird.
We haven't done Mission Space, as I know he can't do the rotating (even spinning circles on the ground makes him sick). I think we will try the Green side in March for the first time.

Soarin' is like an IMAX film, but I don't think it would be a problem. It doesn't have 3D effects - you're just sitting in a seat that moves a little - watching a move on an IMAX screen - if your worried about this one, I'd sit on the bottom row (ask a CM). Star Tours and Mission Space Green are simulator rides- they don't spin, but they move a LOT. Star Tours has 3D effects - that one makes me queasy. Mission Space isn't 3D, but it's still a simulator. I got sick deep sea fishing, but have never gotten sick on any other boats. Star Tours is the only one of these 3 that affected me and I think it was the 3D combined with the simulator that did me in!

it's so hard to tell what will bother one person and not another. i am totally afraid of rollercoasters. cannot ride any of them ( i know how lame, right? ) but soarin is my favorite ride in the world and i could ride it all day long. i've also ridden star tours. it doesn't make me sick but sometimes scares me a little, lol. never ridden mission space. weirdly i find soaring incredibly relaxing. the first time i rode it i freaked myself out because of the signs about drops ( i don't do drops, ie hate rollercoasters) but this ride is so gentle and you smell oranges and pine. such a cool ride.

I get motion sickness so easily. I take medicine before we drive anywhere over an hour. I find Soarin to be fine, Star Tours iffy and Mission Space NO WAY! That's all with medication

I get motion sick in the back of cars and swinging at the playground makes me dizzy at this point in life. :o However, Soarin' was amazing and didn't bother me and I'm so glad I 'braved' it.

I will never set foot on Mission Space or Star Tours from everything I've read. Nor will I put my DD on them as she seems to be following in my footsteps. My poor DS - who can read/color/etc in the back seat for hours with no problem - will have to wait until he is old enough to go by himself while we all wait at the exit for him! :p

Oh, my, I don't get motion sickness easy, but I imagine even I would have gotten sick in those two instances (pretty sure I know the road ride you're talking about)!

Soarin' is not a ride I would think would cause motion sickness, but guess it would matter if he had eaten right before or not, or exactly how sensitive he is. I 'hate' rides like Mission Space - will not go on that ever again - either side! Star Tours can potentially make you woozy - it does me - just shut my eyes periodically LOL.

Wish you a great first trip - we will be there in exactly two weeks also!

Soarin should be fine, the motion is very gentle. Star Tours is a bit bumpier. I don't think you will really know if you will get sick until you are on them unfortunately. I'm fine on them both and I am very prone to motion sickness. (I get sick on the MK ferry and Jungle Cruise LOL)

Soarin and Star Tours are both short enough that you shouldn't get desperately sick even if you do feel a little off. I would skip Mission Space entirely.

Well, I'm going to try Mission Space this time with a Transderm Scop patch. Otherwise, even Soarin makes me sick. We'll see what happens. Without the patch, though, I wouldn't even consider the simulator rides.

I get motion sick from IMAX movies and simulators, but not much from actual rides or mountainous car rides. A boat to go out snorkeling on a choppy day was a bit troublesome. Even the swooping vistas in the Canada movie in Epcot bother me. I need to skip Soarin' and Star Tours. My hubby thinks I could handle missio:space green, but I don't bother to try. My kids (9 and 7 now, riding those rides since age 5) occasionally get car sick on winding car rides but 3D movies are no bother and they enjoy all of the listed rides. They also agree that they're great rides and I'm really missing out!

I have pretty bad bad motion sickness - I am just fine on Soarin, it is one of my favorite rides! I did Mission Space Green once and while I didn't get sick afterward, I felt queasy during and just did not enjoy it all. Star Tours I usually do multiple times on each trip, and I do have to close my eyes during some of it, or I feel sick.

I also would not recommend the O' Canada movie (360 degree screen = I had to sit down and close my eyes during the entire thing).

I did Mission Space Orange once and never will again. I've never been so sick from motion. I tried the green side our next trip and still didn't care for it. A combination of the movement and closed space did me in.

Star Tours gives me a little queasy feeling, but I still ride it. Last trip, I closed my eyes in some parts and that seemed to help.

Absolutely no issues on Soarin. Movement is very minimal.

When we went in 2009, the only ride I didn't ride was Mission:SPACE and I really regretted it. The next trip I rode the orange side and it was fine.

Yes I turned my head on the Green side , the more intense right, just to see what it was like and it was like I was back in the 70's watching movies on what it supposedly looked like on LSD. It was like I was tripping. :flower1:

Judging from your description of the things that made him sick, which sound fairly intense and the fact he has done tea cups and spinning rides and been fine, I think he will be able to do all 3 without issue. I can't ride Tea cups or spinning things. I got totally sick motion sick watching a Bourne movie in the theatre once. I can do most IMAX, but every now and then one gets me a little. Soarin is one of my favorite rides- it is very mild. My MIL gets motion sickness really easily and she is fine on it. Star Tours is a little bumpier. The only time I have ever felt queasy is when I rode it 3 times in a row. Once is absolutely fine for me and it is a lot of fun. You say he loves Star Wars, so I would say try it. My DD is not a huge thrill ride kid and it has been one of her absolute favorites since she was 5. If you can do Star Wars you will be fine on the mild (green) side of Mission Space. It is very similar to Star Tours. I avoided that one for years absolutely sure it would make me sick. I finally caved to ride it with DH and DD, and to my surprise I enjoyed it and had absolutely no issues with it. I was really missing out all those years! I won't set foot on the orange side of it though!

I think you are way more likely to regret things you haven't done than the things you did.

You may choose never to do them again, and you may not enjoy it (or might get a bit sick afterwards)- but it is unlikely you'd actually regret it.

But not doing it, you'll always wonder if you should have. Mission Space- go easy side first.

I am 21 and will never do Mission Space again. I did it when I was younger when it was very new before they even had the softer side of the ride for people who get sick easy. I laid in bed the rest of the day with Nausea. So I would stay away from that. Star Tours is not too bad, but I do know of people who cannot do it because they get motion sickness easily. I can't do it more than twice in a row without not feeling good. Soarin' is just an amazing ride in general. Motion Sickness on it is very possible, but I would think the least possible of those three.
