Will I love the Disney Fantasy?

Everything! LOL. I absolutely loved the Magic! But, the truth is that I have nothing else to compare it to. I have never in my life done a cruise shorter than 7 nights, so I have no experience with the Dream, but I already feel like I would be slightly disappointed with the Dream, purely because they only have short cruises. The Fantasy will be 7 nights as well, so I am not worried about it from that perspective. I just loved the intimacy of the Magic. It had everything I needed or wanted (for the most part), but never felt crowded or anything. The ship was beautiful (and very recently re-imagined) when I was onboard. We had a simple Oceanview stateroom on Deck 2. It was lovely. On the Fantasy, we have upgraded slightly to a Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom, mostly for the extra space and because my DD (11) dreams of sleeping in the porthole. I know that the ship will not disappoint at all, and feel better now about the crowd control. I think it is cool that you are sailing out of New York Harbor. I love being an hour from PC and having easy access to DCL without airfare, but I think sailing out of New York would be an experience. :lovestruc As far as missing the Aquaduck...I can imagine you would worry about that, as I could not be more excited to have it on the Fantasy, but they do have the Aquadunk on the Magic which is a cool and unique slide, and the Twist and Spout which is tons of fun. And....they have Aqualab on the Magic as well. I promise you that you won't be disappointed in the Magic. She is an amazing ship. What itinerary do you have out of NYC?

Thank you so much for your reply and I'm sure I'll love the Magic so much!! Definitely want to do the Aquadunk although my son probably won't be tall enough for it...the slide and splash pad area look awesome on the Magic! And I can't wait to see Tangled!!

You will LOVE the Aquaduck!! Oh my goodness I think we rode it close to a hundred times! Definitley hit it up when a show or dinner is going on for shorter lines...we did that several times and had no wait and then on our sea day we stood in line for 45 minutes! It's such a good time and they take a picture of you going down one of the hills which makes for some great pictures!

We are doing the 5 night and visiting Bar Harbor, Maine and St. John's Canada with two sea days. I'm so excited!! I've been to Maine before and it's just beautiful and the lobster rolls are to die for! Looking forward to this new experience!! Enjoy your cruise on the Fantasy!:flower1:

I'm in the "I've been on the Dream and Fantasy and love them but am now going to the Magic" camp myself. I'm not overly worried about the Duck as it was a minor part of my trip (once, maybe twice and I was done) and honestly don't plan on doing the Dunk (water up my nose and a bathing suit wedgie? no thank you!). I do think I'm going to miss Skyline. Even if I only had one drink a night there, it's such a cool, quiet, small, and chill place to hang out. But then again I'll be on the ship with my parents, so I'll have them to hang out with. I suspect for my solo trips I'll probably stick to the big girls simply because there seem to be more small little venues to chill in in the adult night area. But we'll see.

If you loved Skyline because of it's quiet simplicity, you will most likely LOVE "Keys" on the Magic. It is a quiet, luxurious piano bar in After Hours and is one of the things that already my husband is disappointed won't be on the Fantasy. They have large porthole windows on the port side and we sat there one night sipping a cocktail, watching the illuminated waves below and listening to the sounds of Clara Oman. It was a lovely evening.

How tall is your son? It looks like the height minimum is 48". View attachment 200734 View attachment 200734

We've been on both ships and love them both! I really don't think you will be disappointed. My kids prefer the teen space on the Fantasy to the space on the Magic but otherwise, the experience on both is magical. The only time I ever felt like crowds were an issue was finding deck chairs. It is a bit more crowded around the pool on the Fantasy. CC wasn't an issue at all and we were on a full ship.

We loved the Cadillac Lounge on the Wonder for the same reason. The Piano player, the huge portholes right next to extremely comfortable chairs and the Alaskan scenery going by in the window (even at 10:30, you could still see outside) all made for a truly great evening. IMHO, the only things the Fantasy has over the classic ships are the AquaDuck, Midship Detective Agency and on-demand movies in the stateroom. Oh, and normally a smaller price difference between the veranda and inside staterooms. They are different experiences, that's for sure. Just prepare yourself for that and you'll have a great time.

See, I'm NOT into musicians in bars when I just want to hang out. So I may visit, but it won't be the same.

Well, if that is the case, then Keys probably won't be as great for you as I had hoped. That may be one of the downsides to the Magic for you. The After Hours area on the Magic consists of only 3 clubs. Fathoms, Keys and O'Gills. Fathoms is more "club-like" and O'Gills you had on the Dream class ships so you are already familiar with its sports bar atmosphere. There are only a couple of other lounges on the Magic. You could always go to the Cove Cafe (as they do have a full bar and a quiet atmosphere). There is also Preludes Bar right outside of the Walt Disney Theater...probably has a great deal of nearby foot traffic, and the Promenade Lounge which I always found to be pleasant and quiet, but it does have entertainment from time to time. I hope you will find that helpful. :D

Thanks! Like I said, probably not a huge deal as I'll be with my parents and they aren't really bar or lounge people.
