First wait over, passed ROFR - Yea! Second wait begins, when will I close? I paid for expedited service, told that it could take an additional 2 to 4 weeks before I'm in the System. :hourglass

I have a cruise booked beginning 12/08, need corresponding DVC accommodations from 12/3 or 12/4 thru 12/07. Already missed the 11 month window, guess I'm going to miss the 7 month too.

From what I'm reading on this board, many of the resorts are already waitlisted for the studios/1 BR's during this time period. Is is possible to book the room as a cash res, then convert it to DVC points when we close?

Considering renting points now for the res or hope something will be available when we close. We'll have banked points that need to be used before Oct. 06. I assume I wouldn't have a problem renting out the banked VWL points (know I can't transfer them). What to do, what to do?

DVC inventory is different from CRO inventory of rooms, so you can't just change a CRO room over to DVC points.

Of course not, that would be way too easy. Can't wait to get the membership info, should prove to be interesting and, hopefully, informative reading.

You probably won't find any direct explanation of the CRO / DVC integration in the paperwork you receive. You kinda have to read between the lines. It goes something like this:

Whenever a DVC member opts to use their points for anything OTHER than a DVC resort (cruise, other WDW resort, Concierge Collection, etc.) DVC takes the posted amount of points from the member. Behind the scenes, DVC uses those points to set aside DVC rooms which the general public can book through CRO.

So, there really are separate room inventories for DVC and CRO. If you have booked a room through CRO, that room belongs to CRO and members cannot access it.

Hope that helps on some level.

Your explanation cleared up that part of my "fog". Assume I'll eventually figure out how to navigate the DVC process. Thanks again to all the helpful DVC members who have offered advice and support in this confusing process.

Your best bet may be to rent those points now, they "pay" for the nights by renting your points once they are in your hand. Except for your time, should be pretty much a break even - and you might even find someone willing to do a "secure loan" and accept your transfer at a later date (secured with a check).

This is the longest part of closing---when you need to make ressies. Keep up with the closing company to make sure your paperwork isn't falling through the cracks (that happened to me once). Ask where you are in the process, what still needs to be done, and do everything on your end to get papers back overnight.

Truthfully, I don't think you'll have a problem getting as long as you're flexible about where you stay. You are still booking quite a bit out and most people here can attest to waitlist successes. What did you read on the boards that's already booked? Some places are always hard to get (such as BWV standard or boardwalk view, VWL at Christmastime) but OKW and SSR have a LOT of rooms. You could book one of those two places then waitlist if your first choice isn't available---then you at least have someplace to fall back on before your cruise.

HTH and pixie dust for a happy ending.... :wizard:

And, oh yes, WELCOME HOME!!!!

Guess we'll wait & see how long the closing takes, if it gets close probably will try to rent via the various methods described above - thanks.

I was referring to posts regarding the hard to get studios @ WVL, BWV, but as a 1st timer will be happy to land anywhere to make this trip work. Thanks.
