Will I be really disappointed?

I've run into a couple of financial set backs and there's a possibility that I'll have to change our reservations from CBR to one of the All Stars. This will be our first trip to WDW so I haven't experienced the difference between a moderate and value resort. I'm still not sure how things will turn out. I'm definitely not cancelling our trip but I'm thinking that we may have to downgrade. Will I be all that dissapointed with a value resort? W

it depends on what you want out of your visit. our first couple of trips to wdw, we couldn't have cared less where we stayed b/c there were so many things to see in the parks and that is where we spent most of our time. if that is your plan, i think you'll do fine in the all-stars.

now that we've seen a lot of the parks already, we prefer (if we can afford to) to stay at a moderate or deluxe and take advantage of more of the resort amenities. however, we still stay at the as's occasionally when that fits our budget better. :)

Oops, I dropped my keyboard and didn't finish my post and somehow I clicked submit. Anyway, if a good discount doesn't come out in time and I downgrade, which All Star is the best one? BTW, our family includes me, hubby and three boys ages 9-14.:(

I know what you're saying, and that's what I thought too. I figured we'd be at the parks all day and wouldn't be in our rooms much. But then I got to thinking and did more research and liked the idea of touring in the morning and returning to the resort mid day and swim or take advantage of some of the activities there. Plus I fell in love with the theming of CBR. Decisions, decisions.

Where do you plan on everyone sleeping both at CBR and AS? Is someone sleeping on the floor? There is no rollaway bed option at either resort. To each his own, but I could never spend a week cramped like that in a room that is designed and stocked to fit no more than 4. However, maybe you plan on 2 rooms. For your first trip to WDW, I think you'll be happy no matter where you stay.

I would never even think of putting five in rooms that small. We need our space and privacy with the added plus of two bathrooms. So the answer is that we have two connecting rooms booked at the preferred rack rate of $159 ea.

I think the rule is only 4 to a room at both AS and CBR. You may want to see if you can find something at PO which sleeps 5. Or, check out the Dolphin if you are going to have to pay for 2 rooms. I think they sleep 5 and they have some really great deals going on.

I should've mentioned before that our reservations are for 8/04. I'm hoping some good discounts will come out for our dates. If not I'll look into the Swan/Dolphin or maybe Pop Century. I'm trying to keep with two rooms if possible but if things get too tight we'll all just have to rub elbows for ten days in one room!:D

Castillo Mom - I don't think you will feel any disappointment at all ~ I think you will be thrilled to be onsite at Disney and happy you were able to swing it even with the problems you had.

Have a great trip!

Thanks, I'm sure we will!:Pinkbounc

If you are going to get two rooms anyway why dont you look into a cabin at Fort Wilderness? It would fit everybody great and be cheaper.

I think your family will be fine at AS. We stayed there once for several days and then transferred to CBR. For all the talk of smaller rooms we were ok at AS. Of course we didn't do much more than sleep and watch a little TV.

Our family was thrilled we got to make the trip to WDW again that we didn't care that we were at a value resort.

I would stay at the AS again if the price was right.

You'll enjoy the all stars! Your boys would probably like sports best. Our favorite is music. Maybe the Courtyard at Marriott will have it's 20.04 rate in 2004 if so - go for that. Two rooms would only run you 40.00 plus tax! :bounce:

AAA has discounts also, if you booked room only you can call CRO and have the discount applied to your reservations. It's not much but every penny helps. I saved $72.00 a night for AKL Concierge. We will be there Aug. 3rd to the 11th at the Swan then off to AKL until Aug. 15th.

If you try the Dolphin I'm sure they offer the AAA discount also. I know the Swan does.

You can also purchase your tickets at the AAA office for an additional discount. Not much, but......

Have a wonderful trip.

You will not be dissapointed with the ASR. With kids their age, I think they will like the ASSports, but really any ASR is a nice place to stay. You will have a great time! Don't forget to purchase your refill-mugs! You can pool hop to the other ASR pools! Enjoy!

We stayed at the All Stars last Christmas, and the Grand Floridian this summer. While they are two completely different types, I can honestly say that I love the All Stars. I think your children will love it, too, and will just be thrilled to be at Disney. I may make a short Dec. or Oct. trip with just myself and my youngest daughter (gotta use that AP), and may stay at the All Stars, because we did enjoy it, and won't be in the room much. It's a happy place!

I have stayed at CBR and the AS Movies and Sports. Since you are getting two rooms, space should not even be a factor. I would ask yourself if you will use the extra amenities (in both rooms). Coffeemaker? Iron? Hairdryer? Hot tub? Slide? (It think your kids are too old for it. They will think it's very small) Sit-down restaurant? At the ASSp you are first on and first off the bus. I would save the money and stay at the Sports and not give it another thought. We took my niece and nephew there (13 and 16). They had a blast! Get each kid a mug and they will be very happy.

Wow, you're all so nice! I feel much better after reading all of your replies. Whatever happens, happens; we'll still be at Disney!:Pinkbounc You've all given me a lot of great ideas in case I have to change our hotel. I'm so glad I found this board, you guys are great!:D

There is only one sure thing and that is that if you go into waiting to be disappointed, then you most definately will be. Just give it an honest chance and I think you will like it. Someone else made a good point. It might be different if you had already stayed at many deluxes, but since this is your first time you will be focussing on the good things about staying in a disney resort as opposed to comparing room sizes, etc. It really does make a diference when staying in Disney. ive stayed at the deluxes as well as the allstars and there is a difference, but allstars is still very clean and you still get all the disney magic. Ive always felt that I would stay at allstars every time before I would stay at a 5 star resort off property. Thats just me though.
