I don't plan on us taking our children on Dumbo?

It's not that I don't want them to ride it. But, if the line is long, I'd rather not spend our time waiting for it. And I don't want to break our necks getting to it after the park opens.

I just feel like I'm being a terrible mom. :rotfl2:

:) My kids have yet to go on Dumbo. They have been on the flying carpets twice though. They saw the Dumbo ride and even the DD (5 at the time) asked about it being the same ride just different "cars."

I'm with you on this one. In about 6 trips, DS rode Dumbo once (during a rain storm). That is one line I will NOT wait on and we don't run for rides either.

Are we both bad moms? :lmao:

Lol. We only do it if the wait is VERY short. BUT, we've managed to get it done at least once on every trip.:hourglass

Of course you won't be a "bad" mommy, but if you get there first thing in the morning, you won't have to wait long, then you will be a "great" mommy! Seriously though, Dumbo is DD6's favorite ride. But there have been trips that we did not go on simply because the line was too long (and it doesn't move quickly!) Last trip, we went during EMH and were able to get on right away. We also got to ride it during fireworks -we were in line at 9:50 and by the time it was our turn the fireworks just started - it was one of the most memorable times I've had at Disney!

Last year as we entered magic kingodom(at park opening) we went straight to dumbo and there was no line. We followed tourguidemike and went on all rides with little or no wait.:cool1:

LOL! Yeah, we're both going to miss out on the "Mommy of the Year" award on this one. ;)

When we go when the kids are older and they ask to ride Dumbo, then I'll may consider letting them ride it. :lmao: Seriously, if they were old enough to ask to ride it and it was one of their favorite rides, we'd do it. I think we'll at least skip this year though.

So, if we go straight to Dumbo when the park opens and we ride it, how long is the line going to be to Peter Pan and other more visually appealing rides after we get off Dumbo?

You're not a bad mommy at all! In fact, if you don't want to take them on it, there's an actual Flying Dumbo right next to the ride that can be used for photo ops, so you can just sit them in that, get a great picture, then move on to the rides you really want to ride on! Have a blast!

I agree with going straight to Dumbo and riding it first. There is no line at park opening. We made the mistake once of not doing this when dd was 2.5 yo and when she saw it later in the day it was all she wanted to do. So we waited an hour for Dumbo.

We go regulary and Dumbo has always been our first stop. This year for the first time the kids (now dd is 9 and ds is 6) finally decided that getting to Splash Mountain first was more important.

Our 1st year we didn't ride d/t the fact the line was to long. We rode it once last year and honestly at the time my DS was 5 and DD2 and it was not one of their favorites. My problem with riding it 1st thing is you miss out on the short lines for other rides that sometimes the kids enjoy more like winnie the pooh and peter pan. These rides are quick in the mornings and you can ride multiple times in the amount of time you wait for Dumbo even in a short line. Also the dumbo line has no a/c and gets hot. My kids enjoy the magic carpet ride better and even in the middle of the day it is a shorter line. Of course, we go in Sept. so maybe different other times of the year.

If that's the only thing that will make you a bad mommy than you are getting off easy! ;)

This ride was definitely a highlight for my dd4. She rode it two times in a row, it was on a magic evening hours day, at about 8:30pm. We also had no line for any of the neighboring rides.

This is the 1st time we go to wdw with our boys and I just have to see what all the fuss is about dumbo. but we will not be waiting more than 20 min for it. we are going in oct. so crowds should be thinner than summer and we will head for it first at opening and hope for the best. I was on it once as a child, my very 1st trip so I guess I am looking forward to riding it with my dss. But like I said, will not wait more than 20 :)

My children only go on it when the park opens and the line is really really really short (like 10 minutes).

We always skip it when the lines are longer or the sun is high in the sky.

I have no interested in baking in an elephant oven for my kids enjoyment.

We haven't had a problem riding Dumbo first or any other rides after Dumbo. Of course, we get there close to opening, leave by 1pm, come back later in the evening for dinner or after dinner and stay to close. We have a big nap and rest period in the afternoon. And we did all this is September.

Because it's not a hassle, I find Dumbo fun and part of the magic of the MK.

You won't be a bad mom but just remember for some reason Dumbo is like crack for toddlers. For some reason the see that flying elephant and gotta wanna need to have it. We usually go to Fantasyland right when the park open so that we can do Dumbo with little line. I don't even think my kid has seen the Dumbo movie but he still wants to cram us all in the flying elephant.

Not at all. Dumbo moves very slowly. We only go to it if it is EE or during a parade and very small line. I have had at least one trip when we didn't ride it at all.

Will you be there during the Magical Beginnings time? We took DD last year during it and walked right onto Dumbo when it first started. We did the "chuck bubba" or whatever its called and let her ride it 2x, then all three of us waited in line again and rode it a third time.

So, if we go straight to Dumbo when the park opens and we ride it, how long is the line going to be to Peter Pan and other more visually appealing rides after we get off Dumbo?

We went the last week of July. When the park opened we headed straight for Dumbo and were in the third group of people to ride. We then did the Carousel, PP, IASW, and saw Ariel in her grotto by 10am. We also FP Pooh for later. We preferred to skip the teacups and Snow White. We did Philharmagic another night during the parade with no wait.
