I really dont want to pack a jacket for a 4 day trip. We are trying to pack light and carry on and that jacket takes up a ton of space. I have seen some photos of people at Tritons and they look pretty dressed up. WIll he be embarassed without a jacket.

When we went on the 4 day last year, I did not take a jacket, and there were many guys wearing slacks and a polo shirt. I did not feel uncomfortable or "out of place". There were several families who did dress up, but definitely not the majority. The 3 and 4 day cruises are much more casual than the 7 day.

On the Wonder Disney suggets that men wear jackets at Triton's.

I don't think he'll feel out of place. There is a wide range of attire on 4 day cruises. I have always seen several men wearing similar outfits at Triton's. You'll see a tux, and then you'll see the guy showing up in a t-shirt and his bathing suit. The other two dining rooms, slacks and a polo are perfectly fine as well.

While on our first 4 night cruise, I brought my husband's old blue blazer instead of his new one and it didn't fit him anymore. He wasn't a happy camper, but I can tell you that he didn't look out of place at all without the jacket, there were a lot of men without them. As long as your husband has on a nice polo shirt and dressy slacks and nice shoes, I'm sure he'll be just fine. It's vacation, enjoy it!

He will not look out of place or feel out of place. My husband did not wear a jacket last year to Triton's nor will he next week when we are on the ship. I would suggest wearing a button down shirt instead of a polo. But, there will be a lot of other men in polo shirts.

Two cruises, both on the Wonder....dh wore a nice polo and khaki's both times. He did not look, or feel, out of place.

My husband wore a jacket to Triton's and Palo's. I did see other men wearing polo shirts, but I thought my husband looked so handsome I'm glad he wore a jacket. My preference is that the men should wear jackets.

Even though Triton's dress says "jacket recommended", your husband will be fine in a polo shirt and slacks/khakis. I find the 3 and 4 day dress a little more toward the casual side than the 7-day.

I agree! Just make sure he's wearing pants with that polo and he'll be fine. :)

He can wear a dress shirt and tie (along with his pants) to be a little dressier. That won't take up as much space in the suit case as a jacket.

I too prefer that men and women follow the dress codes for each evening. Your hubby might not look out of place or feel uncomfortable because so many are not following the dress code, but I feel it's an issue of respect for the other passengers as well. I personally feel annoyed when other passengers don't dress appropriately. It ruins the atmosphere. The evening dress it part of what makes a cruise special. If you really don't want to hassle with packing a jacket that's fine--just don't go to Tritions for the formal night, there are other dining options where you can remain in casual clothes.

The clothes issue is a debate that surfaces every so often. While I would expect people to dress nicely (i.e. no shorts, jeans or t-shirts), business casual is absolutely accepted and quite common in Tritons. Be careful when you talk about a dress code. Disney's dress recommendations are stated just as that. They are not requirements.

On the 7-day, this issue becomes more glaring, since now you add a formal and semi-formal night into the mix. Just remember, there is no formal night on the Wonder.

I will be the minority on this, so be kind....

I am on vacation, I really don't want to worry about Oh tonight is formal night, have to wear a tux. I understand some people want to dress up & make it an event.

I will probably wear a tux on formal night, but that is more to please the DW than it being formal night. With 2 young kids we don't get to go out often & will probably take advantage of it during the cruise.

I say relax wear what you are comfortable in and just
:wave2: to anyone that happens to give you nasty looks.

Just so we don't confuse the issue. The original question was about Tritons, which is on the Wonder. The Wonder does not have a formal night, unlike the Magic, which sails a 7-day itinerary and has two formal nights.

But to address you concern. If you don't want to wear a tux, you will be just comfortable in a suit, if you prefer.

DH and I just got off the Wonder. He wore a suit to Triton's but there were plenty of men who did not have jackets on. I think he wore his suit partially to please me becuase he looks so handsome, and it's not often he gets out of that kevlar vest and blue polyester uniform he has to wear to work (though he looks handsome and manly in that as well. ;) ). When we ate at Palo the last night he didn't wear his suit jacket, just a button down shirt and suit pants. Shhhhhhh.

My own personal philosophy on this is:

If I am invited to a wedding reception and told that jackets are recommended, I will wear a jacket as my hosts request of me.

If I book a cruise and they recommend I wear a jacket to dinner, then I will wear a jacket as my host requests of me.

Now if either said "smart casual" or business casual" recommended, I could wear a polo and khakis, or a sportcoat. If they expected better, they would have stated it.

In this case, Disney has stated what they prefer. I prefer to do as my host asks.

I am not stating that anyone has to "do as I do". I am doing what I was taught to do, no more, no less. We all know Disney will not stop anyone from dining on the cruise unless they show up nekkid
