Will Harry Potter World be Open March 16-17??

According to a post on the main WWoHP thread http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=35317696&postcount=924 The Today show announced a contest for HP and said that the WWoHP would be open in April.

If true that increases the chances of Soft Openings in March...

Of course this is pure speculation, as always...

That's the only place I've seen that has said that the Today Show talked about an April Opening. They did talk about voting for their contest happening in April though.

Here is the link to the Today Show and what they said.

We are going June 15-19 and the hotel prices jump the next week, so that might explain the jump, if that is the "official opening".

I just wish they would announce it already. I can understand that they don't want to jump the gun and rides/buildings won't be ready, but the wait is killing me! Me and millions of others I'm sure!

That's exactly why an official date has not been announced. Can you imagine the reaction of people if Universal said...for example...it would be open on 5/1 and lo and behold...5/1 comes and it's not ready to open!

Oh, the nightmares that would cause. Even saying "May 2010" would cause *some* relief, as it would allow more people to plan their trip more accurately, but then there would be more "when in May??????" questions all over the place. And if wasn't ready by the end of May... :scared1:

We'll all know the projected date soon enough. It's been 3yrs in the making, a few more months won't be that much of a hassle (and yet I'm just as eager/excited as anyone)

I thought the same thing about my May 29-June5 vacation at PBH. The week after my dates, the rates nearly double. I don't think we can read too much into rate increases yet, but what do I know. I will be surprised if they aren't pressing for a Memorial Day or prior opening. When you say Spring 2010, that means before Memorial Day. I realize that is anecdotal and Spring lasts longer officially.

I know, I know. No official opening til everything is complete. But I can dream can't I? Maybe a soft opening by the end of May(?)...:goodvibes

What's a soft opening? I'm not familar with the term. Thanks so much.
A soft opening is where they have things open (maybe not everything completely) and they just try things out and see how they go. Usually, soft openings will happen randomly throughout a day, maybe an hour or a few hours. It's just about being there at the right time. When everything seems good, they would then have the grand opening (usually).

Inn addition, soft openings do NOT honor any kind of Express. Areas can be open for anywhere from 2-7hrs, or not at all. Areas could open late, early, midday, you never know. If it's open, try it--expect LONG lines and frequent technical difficulties.

Thanks so much for the explanation. Well we won't plan on Harry Potter for this year's spring break mini trip, but now we have a great excuse to come back spring break 2011. We love theme parks and Orlando, so no one has to twist my finger too far to make that decision. I can't think of a more fun place to go with your kids / teens if you happen to like theme parks yourself.

i can tell you it won't be ready to open in march. i was just out there yesterday and they are still working on it.

We're headed down this weekend. I was hoping that Spring 2010 would coincide with the actual beginning of Spring 2010, but... :sad1: I eventually gave up on that & just started hoping we'd get to preview something. Now I'm trying to think of any soft opening activity as a special surprise gift. ;) I'd be excited if they just have the walkways open before we have to leave!

All of this speculation is bringing back happy memories though. When we took DS to WDW 11 years ago, we decided to spend a day at Universal. When we left the park we were offered discounted next-day tickets to the brand new Islands of Adventure. :) We bought the tickets & went back on what turned out to be the last day before the official grand opening! :cool2: It was a wonderful (and very inexpensive) day, despite all the last-minute glitches they were trying to fix!

I hope lots of you get your own special Harry Potter memories! pixiedust:

I am supposed to be going April 1 & 2nd.. I wonder if they will have any soft opening on either of those days.. sort of doubt it if on the 16th of March they weren't near ready...
