We have two days down in Orlando in March. // The only thing I heard about opening was spring of 2010. Does any one know an opening date or can anyone speculate if the park will be open March 16/17?

We've been to Universal / Islands of Adventure theme parks before. Although excellent theme parks, there are other theme parks we like even more in the area. As we have such limited time, we will probably only do a day here if the new Harry Potter World area is open.

Thanks so much.

Nobody on this forum has the slightest idea when it will open so your guess is as good as anyone elses. Everything else at this point is speculation.

Sounds like grand opening will be in May.

The late May grand opening speculation probably comes from the Today Show contest. There is a thread on here with a link to the rules, or you can check the Today Show site for details. The winner of the contest and his/her class will attend the grand opening. Voting will be April 23-29 to select the winner, and the rules state that travel arrangements must be made at least 25 days in advance. That pretty much sounds like late May to me, although it could be after that, I suppose. :thumbsup2

Since the grand prize of the contest is a trip to the grand opening, it is unlikely the grand opening will occur before the winner is chosen. I expect someone at the Today show has spoken with someone at Universal about the timeline. As far as I know, they are still both owned by NBC. ;)

If you look back on major rides over the years "grand opening" was any time from soft openings until the end of the year it actually opened full time. They have also had "grand opening" weekends for AP holders, no word on them yet. Like I said earlier, pure speculation at this point.

Yup...nothing has been announced and any dates are just from tidbits picked up from here and there.

There are lots of things pointing to a May opening but there were lots of things pointing to HRRR opening earlier than it did too.

I don't disagree with you. :goodvibes I'm just saying that the contest is one thing that points to a May "grand opening". I would hope Universal would have soft openings in advance of that date, but if I were planning a trip primarily to see WWOHP (which I am), I'd plan it for after May. Doesn't mean that people going before then won't get lucky and have either soft openings or full time openings. It may open March 1 and still not have the "grand opening" until May as Universal coordinates travel schedules for the actors as well as the contest winners. But damo is right - based on the info we have heard so far, it sounds like the grand opening will be in May.

Still speculation, of course. :thumbsup2 But the OP did ask if anyone could speculate if it would be open in March.

We are going to be at WDW the end of May and wanted to add on a day to go to Universal for the WWHP but I'm not sure if it is worth the admission price for a "soft" opening....especially since it will be Memorial Day weekend and CROWDED!!! Any thoughts from others?

Unless you have to add your day well in advance you should have a better idea a month from now.

There is also a thread here about all of the Universal hotels being unavailable for online reservations from around 5/18 - 5/23, or something like that. This is further evidence of something official at the parks around those dates.

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to reply. I won't hold my breath for March.

Interesting ... very interesting ...

Universal could give us an idea but they would rather create buzz and get people anticipating. Judging from the number of low-cost passes still left at my local Krogers it's not working very well so far.

Either that or no one knows that there are passes at Krogers. They sure seem to hide them well!

May is a very good guess. ROTM had its Grand Opening in May. I want to say Simpsons did too (I forget off hand). Manta opened in May. Whoops, wrong park.

All you can do is hope for the best!
