Will Disney ever build another actual resort?

Do you think Disney will ever build another actual resort? Not a DVC unit? If so, how long before you think they might? If they did, would you place your bet on a value, moderate or deluxe?

I personally would like to see the addition of another moderate level one, but I am skeptical if Disney will ever invest in another actual resort.

Anybody got any ideas on a good theme they could go with if they did so choose to do so?

I agree that I'd love to see another moderate, but I'm not going to hold my breath. If it happens, I'd imagine it would happen after the new lands are created (Pixar, Star Wars, Pandora).

I could see them building eventually but I don't see it happening any time soon.

I imagine that Disney keeps good tabs on occupancy levels and tracks them for every week of the year over the course of a long period of time.
They take that data to make sure that they are staying mostly occupied year round and not finding the resorts totally sold out for extended dates.

If they ever open a 5th gate, you can bet that they will build new resorts to go along with the expected crush. Possibly when HS is finished.

I would imagine that any new resorts built would be similar to Art of Animation with mostly the "Family Suite" type rooms. Because these are the options that are most lacking on property. There are so many options at all levels otherwise, if they were to expand, this is the area they could really make the most of without taking away from their other options.

I wish they would build another value similar to Pop.

If it hadn't been for the continuing development of the various Villas at the Deluxe resorts (Grand Floridian Villas, Polynesian Village and the now under construction additional Villas at The Wilderness Lodge) I would have bet that Disney's next resort venture would have been a new Moderate or even a new Deluxe resort after the AoA (value). :jester:

But the trend now days seems to lean towards more Family Style Villas. :rainbow:

Good or bad - actually I don't know. But I think that they are weighing their every decision very carefully as they are keeping a close eye on occupancy, general attendance and trends in forecast planning. :surfweb:

With the expansion at AK and HS one would think an additional resort would be required. However, unless they break ground within the next 18 months............I don't see it. 2021 is a big year at WDW and I would imagine the execs want to be construction free by fall 2021 for the 50th. If Disney could expedite building..........maybe they could start in 2018 but they haven't shown a propensity for construction speed lately o_O

LoL, I believe what you are saying is correct & should be the case, but can't for the life of me think of Disney not doing any construction at any point in time...... I hope you are correct because the 50th anniversary should be a memorable 1 for sure.

Ya, the family suites style is probably what they will go with in the future. A family suite moderate would be nice, say with a zero entry pool and a water slide. I just wonder what themes that they might look into, and where would a probable location be at?

I would love to see a new Deluxe. However, I'm not sure where they would put it. There is no room on the monorail line, unless they moved the TTC. (Which I don't see them doing.) I don't believe there is room in the Epcot "circle" either. There is room on Bay lake. But I don't know what other kind of "theming" would fit. They can't do another "WL" style. Is there land next to the Studios where you could have a "view" and a short walking path?

I'm sure the Imaginers are already planning. I think we're going to see more DVC and family suite type rooms before we see more traditional resorts. Rumor is DVC will be build at CB next.....

If they cannot fill what they have, I don't think any new resort will be built. Attendance will dictate what they need to do. If they do build another resort, near Hollywood Studios, it should be Star Wars themed. You could have a rebel side and an Empire side (dark side). Just my $.02

@DizDaD7 I already have my calendar worked out for when I can book our room at WL! Yeah I plan that far in advance :P

Ya, I think a Star Wars themed resort would stay packed, even though I would have no desire to stay at it. I have no doubt that theme has probably crossed their minds.

Art of Animation has not been open long, so it hasn't been that long since a new resort was built. And BLT, even if it is a DVC property, is it's own resort as well, not like they just added a wing on to an existing one. That one is still new, by any standards. We stayed at BLT several times before we became DVC members, so it's not exclusive to owners. I'm sure we'll see many, many other resorts in the future. Disney still owns a lot of unoccupied property.

i would rather see them plan a new park before they plan a new resort. Even with all the new lands they are building at AK and HS I think a totally new gate would be a great addition. Once they do that they can see what the crowd level is and see if they need a new resort. Right now I don't think they really need a new resort.

I sure hope so, but I don't think they will do so anytime soon. Based on how much they are expanding DVC and shifting their focus in that direction, it seems like the guaranteed income from the time shares is much more profitable for Disney and I think that is what is driving them towards more DVC and fewer hotel rooms. They have actually reduced deluxe room inventory lately (turning AKL, Poly and WL hotel rooms into DVC units).
