Will dining be private tables now?

Totally off topic, but did you guys have to miss 3 of your stops, due to COVID-19 ramping up and other things? I remember what March 2020 was like on dry land, the tail end of that cruise must have been...interesting.

Yes. Combination of ports closing (Colombia) and DCL wanting to be able to tell border control in San Diego that nobody had been on or off the ship in 10 days.

And none of the measures taken to reduce the risk of transmission appeared to be be very successful, including the individual bread baskets. Not DCL's fault, it was just that the measures were almost exclusively focused on surface-based transmission. I guess that's effective for something like Noro, but as we now understand, it's not how COVID spreads.

We might be a little different in this respect but we actually enjoy meeting and dining with fellow cruisers. DCL does a pretty good job pairing us up with other couples.

I feel like they'll try their best to keep the tables private (to maintain social distancing) for as long as they can until we get back to that "new normal"... I've always had great tablemates, but I know it can go either way. I have requested a private table in the past as I do prefer it overall, but sometimes you don't always get it. Got really lucky and scored the teacups table in Enchanted Garden. Told some people about it on the cruise and they met us for dinner! I thought they were kidding but they were dead serious as they always wanted to dine at those tables.

Unless they sail with reduced capacity (is that required?) they will not be able to social distance everyone without adding another seating time. If that happens, dinner will be shorter which likely will result in fewer choices and less personal service. That could be a deal breaker for us - dining is a big part of any cruise for our family.

I have not read anything about reduced capacity in CDC's rules. Is social distancing even still required? Sounded like with the last update they turned everything into "recommendations."

Im mixed emotion on the tables- I think it’ll cause less movement to First seating which will be upsetting to some who desire it but won’t be accommodated..

shorter Cruises it’s fine but on longer I’ve liked table mates so the potential of new conversation exists..

There’s really a lot of “unknowns” yet… isn’t there? Not heard if DCL is going to wait until the cdc allows full capacity. If they do start up with less than full ships, they of course will have more flexibility for private tables. Agree with @kathi … dining is important to our cruise enjoyment. Certainly hope whatever happens, they don’t rush us through dinner.

For when the UK does sailings on the magic soon, they will have private tablets where only the people booked on their reservation will be at a table from what a cast member told me on the phone.
