Will DCL give you a picnic/sack lunch?

Hi there,

I thought at one point I read on these forums that if you ask, DCL will make you a picnic/sack lunch for when you're at port and you're going to be off the ship all day. But, I have searched the forums and can't seem to find any info on this, so maybe I am totally wrong and DCL does not do this.

Does anyone know or have experience with this? And, if they will provide you a picnic/sack lunch if you ask, how do you go about asking?

Thanks so much!

I have been on 9 DCL cruises and I have never heard of this. Just because I have never heard of it does not mean it does not exsist.

I read the same thing because I remember the person said they got uncrustables and that started a whole conversation on what kind of jelly they were

The thing is I don't believe you are supposed to carry food off the ship, so you would not ask for the uncrustables and other such food to take off. People do take food off but it is not really supposed to happen (from what I have read the past 7 years on the boards anyway). So people bring sandwich bags and wrap up sandwhiches, apples, uncrustables (make sure when you order these from room service you ask that they don't microwave them) and they pack them in a carry coolerish bag and take them off. You cannot bring any of it back onto the ship so eat it all up prior.

DCL does not encourage taking food off the boat and in some cases it may be illegal to do so. People still do it, but don't expect DCL to make it as easy as packing it for you.

We packed a "room service" lunch for our Day at the Atlantis pool after reading about the idea to bring zip lock bags on DIS and hearing all of the horror stories about the food pricing at Atlantis. No one said a word, and there was nothing in the Navigators about not doing it. (I know some ports may be different) Not being an uncrustable fan, we just ordered regular sandwiches with no mayo, big island cookies, and I recall some kind of fruit (The fruit was perhaps from Goofy's station) We asked our room attendant for ice that we double zip lock bagged and it worked out great.

That said, once there, the food wasn't overpriced at Atlantis if you compared it to theme park pricing. However, it did save $$ and I'd do it again.

The uncrustables come packaged so you are allowed to take those off the ship. Other food, especially fruit and vegetables, should not be taken ashore. There will be signs at the gangways stating that it is not allowed. Are there people who still do it? Of course. But it is against DCL policy and in some locations it is against the local laws.
