I read through the website and didn't see anything but it seems like a no brainer. Why no keep your guests there and get their $$ then have them go offsite.

I was picturing maybe a kids friendly one with characters. I know it won't be as authentic but it could be a lot of fun.

3 reasons I doubt they will do their own luau:

- it is very expensive to staff; hosts, waiters, cooks, bartenders, security etc...
- it would requite a large chunk of valuable realestate. The lot right now looks pretty full with buildings, pools and parkinglots
- probably the biggest reason they wont do one is there is already one that happens nightly right down the street. Paradise Cove is one of the bigger luaus on the island. It spans a 12 acre lot right on the water and it is only 1500 feet away on the other side of the Ihilani hotel. http://www.paradisecovehawaii.com/

Another reason there probably will not be an Aulani luau - they are only hiring an Entertainment Tech Supervisor and an Entertainment Tech. No way two people could handle a show like that. One of my college buddies is going for those positions, but is trying not to get his hopes up since there are so few of them though he is very qualified. And PP is right that luaus are very expensive to run. Disney is probably better off sticking with the character breakfasts, though I could see them doing perhaps special-event luaus as many of the hotels here do, with characters (ie. When there are conventions in town, or marathons, holidays, etc, etc) and contract in event staff.

WOW, this is very sad news, we are booked on the Hawaiian Cruise next April was looking or thought that it would be an excursion choice, Having a luau on Disney property with all Mickey & the gang.
Well there still is time, and we can still hope!

I agree with CrazyDuck as to the competition with the already established Paradise Cove location . I have been to Paradise Cove and with the huge land area they use...it would be too expensive to compete. Sorry, but the location of Disney's site should be maintained by/for its guests.

I totally agree. Besides...When I am in Hawaii I want to see the authentic dancers...not characters. There are so many really good and well established luaus all over the islands that it really wouldn't make sense for Aulani to try to compete with one of the most well known ones.

I know you had posted about the Paradise Cove Luaua before but had forgotten about it. Thanks for posting the information again. I'll need to add this to our trip for September.
