Will 1 BR's ever have enough bedding to sleep 4 comfortably?

Whomever decided the second bedroom should have one bed and one pull out wasn't thinking clearly.

I am baffled by this, too. This configuration makes sense in a studio because it makes the room feel more spacious and less like a regular hotel room. But in a dedicated 2 BR, I can't understand why they would put in a pullout sofa instead of a second bed.

Other than BCV (which was an admitted mistake) are there any dedicated 2 bedrooms that don't have two queen beds? All of BWV 2 bedrooms are lock offs, so to me, the 1 bed and 1 sleep sofa makes sense. I like that arrangement for a studio better than the two bed studio - those feel more like a hotel room than a studio to me.

Any 2 dedicated 2 bedroom units at VWL or SSR that DON'T have 2 beds in the second bedroom? I know that all of OKW 2 bedrooms have two beds in the second bedroom .

As everyone here likes to call these Homes away from Homes! I don't think there are many that have 2 queens in their master bedrooms to share with the kids or others, that kind of defeats the purpose of the unit, I might as well just rent a regular hotel room. Our next trip we are gonna give my inlaws the master for the 2 nights they are with us and sleep with the kids in the second bedroom not my idea of a vacation, but would prefer to be with the kids than the inlaws! then when they move, pay for cleaning of the entire unit and back to the master for the last 3 nights, does anyone know if getting housecleaning on a holiday (new years day) would be an issue?

We prefer to sleep in a king sized bed. Even on our way down to Orlando, we try to get a hotel for our one night on the road with a king sized bed and a sleeper sofa (for our 12 yr old). The two of us in one queen sized bed just doesn't work that well.

I don't think they can fit a queen sized sleeper sofa in a studio with a queen sized bed. Not enough room. That's why it's a double.

I think VB's 2 BR units have one queen-size bed and a double-size sleeper sofa in the second BR. If I'm correct about that, then that makes three resorts where you cannot get a 2 BR unit with 2 beds in the second BR. Granted, in BWV's case, it's because there are no dedicated 2 BR units, but the end result is the same -- if you want to stay there and you have enough people to need a second BR, somebody gets stuck on a sofa bed.

Edited to ask this question: I just took a look on www.disneyvacationclub.com and the floor plan of the VB 2 BR unit shows it as a lockoff. Are all the 2 BR units at VB lockoffs?

No, they are not all lock offs. Now that you mention it, both times we had a dedicated two bedroom unit at VB, there was one queen and a sleep sofa in the second bedroom. I was thinking of the WDW DVC resorts when I posted - don't go to VB very often and have never been to HHI.

Thanks, CarolMN. I'm a new DVC owner and still trying to get all this stuff straight in my head. So much to learn... thank goodness for these boards! I particularly appreciate your posts because you really seem to know all the details about DVC ownership.

Count us in as requiring that king size bed also. It wouldn't be a master bedroom if it had two beds in it (IMHO). The new pullout sofas are very comfortable. We had no complaints from our last guests who had to use one for a couple of nights. The 1 bedroom units are designed for couples or families with children who can sleep on the pull out and save points. If you need more than one bed, you need a 2 bedroom. In the case of OKW, that means you get two queen sized beds, and I think THAT is a big plus too. Whomever decided the second bedroom should have one bed and one pull out wasn't thinking clearly.

And that depends on your needs. Last trip we found one bed and one pullout great - we took my mother in law and her sister. They were fine sharing a bed, and enjoyed the luxury of having a sofa to sit on instead of perching on the edge of the bed. It gave them their own complete space, rather than our space. Since we had our kids on the living room pullout - and they went to bed early - it made their room a pleasant place to spend time in. They also had their own door to the outside, so they could come and go as they pleased.

Lockoffs aren't for everyone, but they are great for certain configuartions - like traveling with other adults that don't need two beds and do want their own space.

I agree. We are taking my mom with us in May and a queen bed and sofa in the second BR will allow her to have her own very comfy space, which I think is great. But there will be trips with other family members where 2 queens in the second BR would work out better. Just wish they had both configurations available at all DVC resorts.

Another vote for the king bed! DH and I stayed at SSR in a studio last trip and DH ended up on the sofa a couple of nights
The queen bed just wasn't comfy to us any more. So it will be 1 bedrooms for us from now on.
I wish there were some studios with king beds. I do understand why there aren't many choices in room configurations! Can you imagine the chaos it may cause when making those "non guaranteed" ressies??

DVC does not want to make the 1 BR comfortable for 4. Industry wide, most 1 BR units are aimed at 2, maybe 3 and 2 BR for 4 maybe 5. I know this is not how their sold, but this is how their built and furnished. And DVC has incentives to conform to the industry mold and certainly to conform to the general makeup of the other DVC resorts. Besides, their main goal is to sell you points and make money. The larger the unit you need the more points and more money they make.

No support here either. I bought in 1991 and want things to stay exactly as we bought. A king in the master and 2 queens in the second bedroom (OKW). This is what my family wants and needs. I would be really really upset if Disney changed anything.

We have a king-sized bed at home so when we were first considering DVC, we wondered how we would cope with downsizing to a queen sized bed when we stay in a studio. We're willing to do it in exchange for saving points and being able to go to WDW more often. Also, we figured that every few trips, we would splurge and stay in a 1 BR so we could have a king bed instead. So I wouldn't want to see the 1 BRs switched from a king to 2 queens. In addition to giving up the comfort of a king-sized bed, the master BR would seem too much like a hotel room rather than a luxurious master BR.

We know that one day soon we will have to use 2-bedroom units once our 2 sons can't stand to sleep together in the pull out sofa, but as of now they do it and sleep fine.

Always had a queen sofa. This past August, after spending the last few years at other DVCs, returned to OKW only to find the sofa bed is now a double. Perhaps it is not in all the units - we were in 1614. However, my 19yr. old daughter slept there, (slender daughter I might add), and while not overly complained about it, did mention that it was not very "cushy". This is the daughter that always has the sofa beds at DVC, and has never said a negative thing about them. I thought the same thing, not a very good "support" system on the bed, when I was making it up for her. One morning I was looking at her sleeping in it, and I thought to myself there is no way I would ask a couple to sleep there. Just didn't seem big enough or as I said before, not supportive enough. Kids would be ok, I would prefer to see the queens back in the living room. Does anyone out there no if this is the case in all the living rooms now? Thanks

I guess I don't know for sure, but the new style sleep sofa we had in the unit last October was definitely a queen.

We planned a 1 Bdrm for the four of us this fall. At the last minute we are taking our babysitter (18). We plan to have her stay with our oldest(8) on the sofa bed and keep our youngest(4) in the King with us. Has anyone done this and do you think it willl work. When I called the office, they did not seem happy about it but did say we could do it?

I agree - need to have two queen beds in the dedicated 2 BR.

I will be fine with the current arrangment once the sofa beds are all replaced. The ones they have now are cheapo crap, only OK for the thinnest and lightest among us... Even in the Studios with sofa beds, the sofa beds should be sturdy foam, not the stained, thin, crummy mattress-type that are there now. If the sofa beds were good quality, people wouldn't gripe about having to sleep on them!

the KING and I get along just fine. If I had to sleep with 4 in a room I would just get a studio and save the points.

DW and I bought DVC because of the KING in the 1 bedroom and I don't think (THE KING WILL EVER LEAVE THE BUILDING)
