I am really looking forward to seeing the wildlife on our upcoming trip to the Fort in June.
I really enjoy everyone's photos of their sightings... however - I am not a fan of snakes and I am starting to get a little nervous about coming across one.
Someone tell me it will be alright....

It's going to be alright.

There, do you feel better?

This old information sheet tells us that there are only three types of poisonous snakes native to the area:

But the 2009 Fort Wilderness Gazette tells us that there are now four kinds of poisonous snakes:

So, no big deal. Only four kinds are poisonous.

TCD

p.s. I have never seen a poisonous snake at FW, and I have been there plenty. On rare occasion, I have seen a harmless black snake. They are usually in more of a hurry to get away from you than you would be trying to get away from them.

We just got back and as we were coming to the turnstile (entrance) we were waved thru but stopped for a large turkey, the Cm looked at us as to why and turned around and smiled..We have seen Gators small and large, Deer, Armadillos, and other critters and yes Snakes. Just leave the snakes alone and they will go their way.

We have seen Mosquitoes,, Flies,, Spiders,, Lighting bugs/Fireflies,,Cockroaches,, MONSTER Cockroaches,,Ants,,Lizards,,Moths,,Catapillers,,Caterpillars,,Thousand leggers,,
and a few more critters,,most of which can be used for fishing bait, :thumbsup2

and don't be nervous,,all snakes at Disney are animatronic.

We just got back.
Saw ducks, rabbits, squirrels, an armadillo, birds, and cranes.

Never saw the bugs that bit DS and DD.

Snakes are not a problem but watch out for those FW Jackalopes. They feed on those five foot tall mice wearing pants and big shoes that you see all over WDW.

I feel better BUT...
if anyone is driving along and sees a lady hustling up a tree like Mowgli... you know what just happened!
:rotfl:

We have been there many times and I've only seen 2 snakes. One last year in May for the 2 week rain festival they had. I think I paid extra money for that one. If you were there at the end of May you know the one. We saw another one on a recent visit. Lots of birds, ducks, turkeys, armadillos and plenty of deer. LOVE the diversity at the Fort.

I was fascinated by these little fellows when we arrived. It was raining and they were all over! I have never seen a frog so tiny!

We have never seen snakes all of the times we have camped at the Fort. We have seen tons of deer, especially on the oaths and trails you will find around the campgrounds. Have fun!

Saw a gator once swimming in the pond next to the sing-along area. He was big enough that they tried to capture it but the gator wasn't going along with it. He ate their marshmallows but swam away when they got close. Don't know if they ever got him. Have seen a couple of snakes but no biggie. They didn't bother us. Although one was wrapped around the handlebars of a bicycle at the trading post. He was a little one. May have surprised someone when they came back to their bike....lol I wouldn't worry about snakes though. Armadillos are cool though.

So if you had a bear behind, would you run into the woods or into a church?

These vicious critters take over the pool deck some evenings...

We saw many of the following creatures
1) American Alligator
2) Black Racer Snake
3) Wild Turkey
