We are planning a trip this Dec and have a quote for the Villas. Which is better the cabin or the Villa? There will be 4 of us total DW, DD 9, and DD 12.

IMO, the villas are better. You'll be able to use all the facilities at Wilderness Lodge, whereas as the Cabins, you're unable to use the stuff at WL, and the pool at FW isn't nearly nice as the pool at WL. You'll also have a washer/dryer at WL in 1 bedrooms and higher and acess to free ones in studios.

They are two different animals. Wilderness lodge has the villas (studio, 1 bedroom and 2 bedrooms). Ft. Wilderness has the cabins. We love both, but as I said they are different.
1. Price point. FT. Wilderness is the cheaper of the two by far. The cabins will fit 4 easily. They have a full kitchen, a seperate bedroom with bunk beds and a full size bed. In the living room there is a pull down bed that comes from the wall. The cabins have a big patio that you can sit on and have lunch and if you are driving you can drive right up to your cabin.
The Villas at WL is attached to a Deluxe resort. So you get the amenities, 2 TS restaurants, gym, theme pool and a quiet pool, gift shop etc. and if you get a 1 bedroom you will have a jacuzzi tub, master bath and a washer/dryer in your room. The WL is a stunning resort, one of the best themed resort IMO.

I'll leave the transportation issues to another dissers. PM me with any questions you have, I'd be happy to give you my take on it.

My parents love the cabins at FW and we stayed there quite a bit, most recently in 2005 with my first daughter. They are very fun, but as other posters have pointed out, they are a whole separate animal from the villas at WL. The cabins are mobile home type trailers that have been given a log cabin look. You will have plenty of room for 4 people. They are located right in the campground which is totally separate from Wilderness Lodge. The campground has an internal bus loop to take people from the campsites to the buses or the marina (you can take a boat to MK). Because of the size of the campground, getting to the parks can take a little longer. The pools are nothing special. But there are petting zoos, hayrides, campfire programs (all of which you can take advantage of if you just visit FW during your trip at some point). The setting is nice, if you like campgrounds. If you walk around in the evening you see lots of people in their lantern decorated campsites, BBQ-ing, etc. But if you like the idea of a hotel better than a campground, WL might be a better choice.

The villas are located at the Villas at Wilderness Lodge in a separate building, but connected to the Wilderness Lodge. This is a DVC resort. Did you get a studio, one or two bedroom villa?

The Ft Wilderness Cabins are located at Ft Wilderness and you do not have access to the ammenities at Wilderness lodge (like the pool). You can dine over at the Wilderness Lodge if you like.

I've stayed at both and would pick the WL Villa. It's part of a deluxe resort, whereas the cabins are part of the campground. They are both nice in their own way, but I would rather be pampered a little, and the atmosphere at WL is so nice.

The pool at the Fort Wilderness cabins is nothing more than a rectangular pool, while the WL pool has a slide, and complementary towels (which doesn't seem like a big deal until your the mom that has to carry six of them from the room).

Hope that helps.

We love the FW cabins! In fact, we just booked ours for 14 days next June!
We love deluxe resorts, too, but never once felt unpampered at our cabin! It didn't have a "campy" feel. The cabins are separate from camping areas. The decor inside and out is very cute, and even has beams on the ceiling. There were Disney prints and Disney bedding throughout, so the theming was just as much as at other resorts. It is so quiet at night-no one running in the halls! We have stayed at many resorts at WDW, and we are now spoiled by these cabins!

Perfect discription. I have never had bad transporation. The boat to Magic Kingdom is a attraction all in itself. We just love riding the boat over Bay Lake to the park. The buses have never been a issue for us.

I have stayed in a Studio and a two bedroom. What size villa are you possibly going to stay in?

We have stayed at both and as the others have said, they are very different from each other. I enjoyed both and would go back to either.
Are you looking at a studio or a 1 bedroom at the Villa's? If you are looking at the cost of a studio vs. the FW Cabin I would definitely go with the Cabin.
YOu will have much more room to spread out and a separate bedroom for the kids. You can use the living room to relax in the evening and you will have a full kitchen which can save you some money. Even if you only eat breakfast and snacks/cold drinks in, this is a savings. The campground is neat and there are many free things to do.
Good Luck with your decision.
