At the Wilderness Lodge Villas:

How many 2 BR villas are there?

At what time of the year would I have the best chance of securing 5 nights in a 2BR at the 7 month window?

As a long shot- at the 7 month window which would be the best weeks to try to reserve a 2BR for 5 nights while the holiday decorations are up?

I would love to be able to take my parents with us and stay there in the future. It's beautiful!

1. I believe there are 44 dedicated two bedrooms and 45 lock-offs.

2. My guess is January or October/November Choice season, particularly if you do weekdays for your visit.

3. I would try for first week of December and use weekday stays. This will be tougher and I suspect will require a waitlist and I am not confident that it would come through consistently over the years.

Thanks-

Would I have a better chance reserving 2 studios? (At 7 months, 5 nights anytime from day after Thanksgiving through Christmas)

We can be flexible with dates and room size.

no 2-bedroom would be your best bid.

that say if you really want this time - very busy with DVC members - I suggest you go over the rent./trade board and post there.

you might find a DVc member who owns VWL to trade with you.

Thanksgiving for standard view BWV is already gone.

this week can't be far behind it.

You may want to try the week prior to Thanksgiving. We were just there (in a 1 bedroom) Nov 13-17. During the last couple of days of our stay, the decorations began going up. Most of the resort was pretty quiet that week. I reserved my 1 bedroom within 60 days of our stay.

We just came back from 11th-17th at VWL.....

We did the disney parks and 2 days at universal....(thought I was in an alternate universe because it was like no one was in the parks....really deserted compared to other times we've been there)

the 2 bd was nice.... (having extra space and w/d and full kitchen) something you wouldn't have in 2 studios....

I booked at 7 mth mark no problem.....

Thanks for the tips! Wilderness Lodge during the holidays would be an "over the top" way to celebrate my mom's retirement in 2008. I just know that they would love the Wilderness Lodge, and if we had any chance of going during the holidays- that would be even more magical. Knowing how popular it is, I thought I should figure out a strategy well in advance.

What are your opinions of this strategy: I could reserve a 2 BR at OKW for maybe the second week in Dec. then try to switch at the 7 mo mark or try to trade with a VWL owner? (I haven't learned about trading reservations yet) :confused3 If I call MS at 7mo and try to switch, would I call 7 mo from our departure day and see whether the entire 5 nights could be switched? Or call day by day?

It's important enough that I'd be willing to split the trip if necessary-For example we could keep 3 nights at OKW and add 2 or 3 nights at VWL either to the beginning or the end of the trip depending on availability at 7mo.

Does any of this sound like it will work?

Thanks for the help!

I think reserving in your home resort early is a good choice and then call MS for VWL at the 7 month mark. I think you have a very good chance of getting what you want, so day by day may not be necessary. MS should be able to give you an idea of availability on your first 7 month call. For example, I just called yesterday to book a 2 bedroom in May at VWL and the CM told me exactly how many they had available. I had to be waitlisted for one day, but I think odds are good that it will become available.

Thanks Tina
I hope it works! Good luck with adding to your reservation. :sunny:

We had a fantastic dedicated 2 bedroom corner room on the first floor 2nd week in July which was booked 6 weeks before travelling.

It was one of the best vacations we have had and we realise how lucky we were at such short notice to get that fantastic room.

regards

David :)
