Is it possible to walk to Fort Wilderness from Wilderness Lodge? Is there bus transportation between both? And finally, does anyone know of a website showing a map of the both facilities?

Yes, it is very possible, and quite enjoyable(depending on the time). It takes 30 - 45 mins and is very scenic. There is also bus transportation running often, probably every 10 - 15 mins. I would suggest you take the walk at least once, especially if it is in the evening or at nite. My wife and I have taken it many times with our 5 yo daughter and 2yo old twin boys. BTW, the campfire is AWESOME!

hi,

yes, there is a very nice nature walking path from wilderness lodge to ft. wilderness, we just did it back in may.

also, there bus service that goes between the two.

don't know of a web site, will try and look for you. maybe someone else can help with that one.:D

We were wondering if it would be possible to take a leisurely stroll to Fort Wilderness, have dinner at the Trail's End Buffeteria (or whatever it's called), and then take the bus back (maybe we should walk back too!).

Your answers are great!

ABSOLUTELY! Have done it many times. Is a great way to spend the evening!

Emmyfaye, don't forget the boats. Some of the smaller boats that leave Ft. Wilderness will stop at the Lodge. The boat dock is close to Trail's End. This is another way to get back if you don't want to take the path after dark (or after a big meal at Trail's End! Don't forget to stop at the Trading Post for souvenirs and ice cream!

Thanks so much for this info - I love the DIS! And I never knew you could take a small boat back to the WL! I guess that means you can take it to FW as well!

I can't wait until December!!!:Pinkbounc

at least one way - and watch for deer! We saw a ton of them when we walked on the trail last Feb (and we were w/four hard to keep quiet kids!!)

Have fun!

The boat to/from WL and Ft. Wilderness makes a stop at the MK as well. During our last trip (a couple of weeks ago) the boats went from WL to Ft. Wilderness to MK.

Nice boat ride.

Yes its possible, and I also hear they have carriage rides and buggy rides now,if they do , i cant wait to go !

yes they do have carriage rides they cost $30 for a half hour. We are going on one on our Ann. Cant wait!

We just returned a week ago - stayed at WL and we walked to Fort Wilderness. There is a trail that you can easily access at the bike barn. You could also rent a bike and ride over. It's a beautiful walk.

But, get this. We sort of went off the trail and ended up backstage behind what use to be River Country. it was was so sad. I climbed up and took a peek at what use to be the fun inner tube ride there - nothing but dried up twigs and leaves. I personally loved River Country, can you tell?

We love Fort Wilderness - great recreation. Do the campfire singalong. Take a carriage ride. pet the animals. Kiss the horses. It's a great time!

when we were there in may, my dh and i took the trail and loved it. at ft wilderness there is a barn full of clydesdale horses. they are beautiful and huge. my dh found a little room in the barn where there were pictures and stories about horses in disney pictures, and so on. he was so impressed (he loves horses). and it was a nice little extra for our walk.

we encountered lots of animals, especially peacocks, mostly males but some females, one even had five babies with her.

my dh thought he would try and get one of the peacocks to kinda walk towards me (he was trying to scare me), but the peacock got smart and started to chase him around. i laughed my butt off, seeing a 6'1" man running from a bird. thought him a lesson though, he won't harrass them anymore. i told him not to. he learned.

have fun.
:D
