We stayed at the Wilderness Lodge for the first time last August and were able to be a flag family. I did a lot of work to make it happen, though.
First, I booked a Wilderness Lodge stay of 10 nights and 11 days. (If you have to wait until check in to do it, then I figured my best shot was to stay more days than most people.)
Then, I booked a room at the Coronado Springs Resort for one night before my Wilderness Lodge arrival.
Then, while my family slept in at the CSR, I drove over to the Wilderness Lodge to check in first thing that morning (before 8 a.m.).
The CM who checked me in said that they were all booked for flag families. But when I said that I wouldn't mind ANY day of my stay, she said, "Let me take a look in our binder." And sure enough, the day that we were scheduled to check out was open. So I told her I would love to have that day.
I also received the best room view in the whole resort by checking in early. We could not move our things into the room until around 4 p.m. that day, but she had us in a room with an incredible view. The CM's held our luggage for us, and my family met me over at the WL for breakfast that morning.
It was incredible stay from start to finish
