Trying to choose a place to stay for spring break in March and some of our group wants to try the Wilderness Lodge, I love the theming and the fact that we've never stayed there but I'm worried about the construction. I assume it will still be going on then so how noisy will it be. I wouldn't want to chance being on or near a floor with construction or have it obstruct something while I'm staying there. Am I better off waiting until its all done or should I chance it.

There is no construction in the villa building itself. There is construction outside along the lake, not sure how far they will be in March. Quiet pool also under construction.

I would wait, why stay at a resort under construction.

It depends on what you expect and want. Is there construction ongoing? Yes. As noted, it's not actually IN the villas section, but the staging area and cleared land for the new cabins and pool are right there if you get lake view. That being said, the actual noise is minimal when you're in the room, and the views of the lake are now quite good. If you're on the bus side, then the noise won't have an impact. The actual Lodge itself has construction as the entire south wing is closed and undergoing a conversion to DVC units. Again, that noise is minimal and not an issue except for the reduced number of non-DVC rooms currently available. Beyond that, all the restaurants are open, the boats still run, the main pool and kids' splash area are going full bore, and the lobby is still beautiful. So, the question becomes, do you absolutely hate construction or can you live with a few camo fences and the hum of construction when you're outside at WL? If the former, avoid at all costs as I don't see the work being done until late 2017 and will likely stretch to 2018. If you want to feel less crowded (reduced rooms means reduced guests) and still get the vibe of the Lodge, by all means book there. Good luck with your decision!

I found this video taken in late June at VWL by an unhappy guest. If this activity and noise would bother you (I doubt it will be much less activity next spring), then you might want to avoid VWL.

We just got back from 2 weeks there.
We LOVED staying there! I stayed in November when they were knocking down trees and that was worse...

It is our home resort... but this time was special. The hotel is dead.. which is nice. The kids LOVED watching the construction. We playing 'what did they get done today'? The workers are so polite and they wave to my kids every day. It was really no bother at all. I was told the gym would be closed, it's not.. I have more updated pictures than the ones above.. it is so awesome to watch the construction take place, we watched them put the pipes in for the pool and rebar the whole 'new' pool deck!
It wasn't noisy, we still napped during the day - they didn't start until 9 am and were done each day by 4. If I can figure out how to post pictures, I will...

Response posted here is mine. I copied it from a different thread on the same subject.

"I had reservations at VWL for the first week in April. I made reservation unaware of construction, so when I received letter from Disney notifying me of construction, I decided to change reservation to BLT.

While at WDW in April decided to go to WL to get a idea of where the cabins are being constructed and extent of construction activity. Noise did not appear to be an issue in the restaurant or lobby area and one could navigate around the pool area ok. Construction was along the lake shore to the north and east of the existing buildings and was pretty extensive, meaning lots of heavy equipment and workers, etc. I think it would have been ok, but ok with decision to switch and wait until construction is over and not have any regrets. Work activity can vary substantially and I may have visited on a slow day or there could be more/less noise or commotion during different phases of construction".

)))) OUCH ((((

Sorry you went through that..

Oh, that wasn't my video. It was posted by someone else but it was the only video I could find regarding the construction.

In fact, I have two VWL reservations booked right now for the next 10 months and I plan on keeping at least one of them. So no, I'm not the one in the video concerned about his peaceful vacation. But thanks for the sentiment! :)

Note to self: DO NOT SHOW VIDEO TO NEPHEW! (He'd love that view and would stand there all day watching. We'd never get to see Mickey)! :teeth:

Thanks for sharing. Hope it didn't spoil your trip.

Carol...I didn't mean to mislead everyone that this was my video. I've amended my post to make it clearer.

Are they still offering compensation? We stayed and the building works did not bother us at all. We got a free Memory maker which was neat. We stayed at the DVC part usung our SSR points. We waitlisted. I hear hotel guests got offered in room credit. Not sure if they still are? Lovely resort. Really enjoyed it.

They offered the compensation to those who had booked prior to the announcement. If you booked after the notices then anything beyond the construction pins was just lucky.
