We are thinking of trying for Boulder Ridge next November 12-19. I know there's a chance we will miss the Christmas tree in the Wilderness Lodge lobby, but do they do any of the Christmas decorations before they put up the tree? Or is it all put up overnight at the same time? If we miss the tree, we want some decorations at least.

We visited WL this year on November 16. Many decorations, including the gingerbread house, were up except the tree.

We watched the tree coming down in the wee hours of the morning on the 8th of January this year if my memory is accurate. I just checked my camera roll and the 8th is accurate.

This will make my girlfriend ecstatic! Thanks!

Keep in mind that resort decorations are put up/down on a lottery drawing basis.

There's only so much labor available in the put-up and take-down time windows. Just because decorations went up/down on the Nth of the month LAST year doesn't NECESSARILY mean that they will go up/down on the Nth of the month THIS year.

Even the MK doesn't do a COMPLETE Halloween take-down and Christmas put-up in one night in early November. The take-down is 100% and put-up is about 80% in the first night (been there - done that).

For the MK park specifically, the MK is decorated for Christmas through the Marathon Weekend in early Jan. But on the Sunday night after, it comes down REALLY fast (which is among the last of the parks to do so).

I've been at Fort Wilderness in early January of Marathon week and on Tuesday the Christmas decorations were up and on Wednesday morning they were gone.

So don't bank on a calendar date. It's a lottery. Your mileage WILL vary.

PS - BTW we love WL Christmas decorations too.

This is new. Must have been due to the new Gingerbread House, since those have to be done in stages, not overnight. In past years they did 100% overnight. Nothing when going to bed. Full on Christmas when waking up. There's been some Dis'ers there who videoed the entire process and posted a rapid speed video of it.

As mentioned, don't get attached or count on it being there on the 4th. Last year, I know BWI was down on the 4th. So WL could be earlier next time.

I would just go the beginning of December so you can experience all of the holiday things.

It just doesn't work with our schedule. We went in December 2018 and then this last Thanksgiving. If I miss them, it will be fine. The upside of November 12-19 is to maybe get the tail-end of Food & Wine and then the Christmas decorations. The best of both worlds. I just love all the Christmas decorations at Wilderness Lodge (just as much as the tree) and would love to see them.

Several years ago, we returned to the WL after being out in one of the parks on the last night of the marathon. The decoration were still up, but there were large trucks parked in the driveway. When we got up in the morning, everything was gone and so were the trucks. Boulder Ridge usually has a pretty nice tree in the center of the lobby there, too.
