Has anyone stayed in these? Did you like them? How to they compare to POFQ? Better or worse? Also does anyone know if you can use the pool at WL if you stay in the cabins? And how much is a golf cart rental? Thank you so much. Trying to decide if I should stick with 2 rooms at POFQ or switch to the cabins. There are 6 of us. Thanks for any help!

They are Fort Wilderness cabins. Not WL. People seem to really like them. I have thought about them for our next trip.

Note sure of your breakdown of people but remember they have a full kitchen but only one bathroom.

As the other person mentioned they are at Ft. Wilderness so no you could not use the WL pool.

Ok. Thanks. Do they have their own pool then? We are 2 adults, and 4 children ages: 10,8,4, and 4. So we need two rooms at POFQ. The villas and suites seem outrageous everywhere so I think those are completely out of the question. Sigh. Too bad I have deluxe taste on a moderate budget.

We always do the cabins! We have 4kids (15, 13, 11, 9.) This is great because they have room to run around outside. The pool is great, better than the value pools. The only drawback is the one bathroom, but we deal with it! I also like the fact that our car is parked right by our cabin. The busses are great but sometimes I just like to use my own car!

All 6 should fit fine in the cabin. We've done with 4 adults and 1 teen. There is only 1 bathroom but it's nice to have a kitchen to keep snacks in and have meals. Saves $ on the food budget. The stores they have onsite have groceries you can purchase or you can purchase from Garden Grocer and they will deliver the groceries to you unless you drive your own vehicle of course, then you can stop at the local grocery store prior to.
The Golf Carts are around $65. I've read on here and somewhere else where it may even be cheaper to rent a cart from an outside company that will deliver the cart to you. May be something to look into.
There's so much more for kids to do at FW vs. POR. I've been to both. They have nightly campfire marshmallow roasts with chip and dale. There is hay rides, paddle boats for the pond inside the park plus you have watercraft rentals for the lagoon area by the beach. The pools are big also. They don't have fancy waterslides but they are big.
I recommend FWC.

There are two different resorts with "Wilderness" in the name:

Wilderness Lodge is a deluxe resort with hotel rooms.

Fort Wilderness is a campground resort with camping sites and cabins.

They are both located in the general Magic Kingdom area, but they are separate resorts and don't share facilities. So, WL guests may not use the FW pool, and FW guests may not use the WL pools.

Of course, as with any Disney resort, the dining, shopping and recreational activities (boat rentals, etc) at WL are available to anyone, so if you stay at FW, you'd be welcome to enjoy the restaurants and recreation at WL. But, FW has really nice recreational offerings of their own, and a newly renovated pools, also.

It depends if you have free dinning. Then two rooms at a moderate. If you have a great room discount then the cabins. I love the cabins but if you have free dinning it's really hard to get to the counter service. When I stayed at the cabins it was to cold to swim so I really don't know what the "big" pool looks like. From pictures I think it looks a lot like POR slide.

We stayed at FW Cabins last April. We had three adults and three kids: 16, 8, and 7. Two adults and the two little kids (one family) used the bedroom. The kids liked having the bunk beds. DD16 and I used the murphy bed and a twin sized blow up mattress I brought from home. The murphy bed is full sized (not queen) and seemed smaller than that. The big bed in the bedroom was also full size. Having a full kitchen was really nice, but we really only used it for breakfast and snacks. We used the toaster, microwave oven, and refrigerator. Never turned on the stove. Housekeeping ran the dishwasher for us every day. Having just one bathroom for the entire crew was sort of a pain. We were near the quiet pool and I thought there would be showers in the restroom there, but that was not the case. It was too far of a hike to get to a comfort station at the campground part, so we just waited for turns in the bathroom. The FW grounds are gorgeous. I'd see lots of wildlife out and about when we walked to the bus stops or went for a run. Deer, squirrels, etc. It was fun to go see the horses, etc. The feature pool is very nice. They did a great job with the upgrade and the kids liked the slide. We used the quiet pool near our cabin a lot more just because of its proximity and because there were rarely any people in the pool or the hot tub. We went to the general store for ice cream bars, but otherwise only ate at Hoop Dee Doo. We ordered from Garden Grocer and they delivered and unloaded all of our groceries while we were at a theme park. They put all of the cold stuff in the refrigerator and set the other things on the table. It was great.-

I really enjoyed FW, but the bathroom situation was enough to make me want two moderate rooms. POFQ will give you those and you'll also have queen sized beds. But, if your family is used to sharing, FW will work.

Have you considered the All Star Music Family suite? They have a kitchenette, queen bed and desk in bedroom, 2 full baths with sinks outside bathroom, full size sleep sofa, twin sleep chair and youth size sleep ottoman.

The family suite would give you quick and easy access to a food court and bus service to the parks. The cabins you use an internal bus to get to the bus service to the park, boat to MK and other campground services.

I have stayed at both and while the cabins are nice and quiet I prefered the suite. I have also stayed at POFQ and would pick 2 rooms there over cabins.

We stayed in a cabin at FW & enjoyed it. Nice boat ride to/from MK. The bedroom had a tv, double bed & set of bunks. The living area had a tv, couch & double murphy bed. Full kitchen, if you want to cook. Also a deck & grill. There are 2 pools. You don't need a golf cart, but we enjoyed having one.

Connecting rooms are nice because you have 2 bathrooms.

Have you looked into renting DVC points?

My family went on a fishing excursion from fort last October and said the mesquitos were horrible. I had wanted to book for this fall but this worries me as I get eaten alive. Can anyone comment on October and bug bites? We are deciding between fort and pofq as well op

We always bring bug spray when we go to or just visit the Fort. There's lots of waterways, but usually Disney does a really good job of controlling the bugs.

If you are parks all day type of family, the cabins may not fit your vacation style. Then you'd be better off in a family suite or two rooms. We love the Fort activities, privacy, park at our door, wishes from the beach, and nice pools. We spend as much time at our resort as we do at the parks so we need a resort that we can enjoy.

We stayed there in Dec 2006 and we really enjoyed the cabins. There were 3 of us, all adults, can't say I'd want to stay there with that many kids. The full size bed in the bedroom was small and the murphy bed was small too, but seemed to be a little larger than the bed and the bunk beds seemed kind of small, we used it for our suitcase storage. We used the fridge and the microwave, but nothing else.

If you can afford 2 rooms at POFQ, why not look at one of the Deluxe resorts that sleeps 5. We had a corner room at Boardwalk and it was huge. There were 2 Queens beds and a sleeper sofa. We could have fit another bed or 2 in there. We did only have 1 bathroom, but for just the 2 of us it was fine.

You really can't compare POFQ and FW Cabins at all, they are two completely different categories to me. I don't know how they ever got classified as a moderate.
