We've stayed in the cabins. They are much larger than a regular room in a resort, you get a kitchen, and you can park (if you have a car) right next to your cabin.
However, transportation is an issue. Depending on where your cabin is, you need to take a bus to boat lauch for MK or CR. You can be quite a ways from the pool, dining hall, and store. You feel like you are staying in a home in neighborhood more than a resort at WDW. There are reasons people spend a good deal extra for the golf carts...
If you like peace and quiet at the end of a long day, or if you want more room--you'll love them. If you really dislike waiting for buses, or want to be in the middle of the magic--you might want to reconsider.
