I am looking for information on these cabins. We have a party of 6 so our choices are somewhat limited.

We are going to Disney next summer for about 8 days. Since we will have some great hotel/relaxing time, I would like to stay at a resort that we can really enjoy. I would love to do Poly or AKL, but we have 6 people. we have an upcoming trip to ASMo and if we really like it we will probably just do 2 rooms there again. BUT...since we will have so much more time to enjoy our hotel next trip, I want to explore my options. Any ideas??

Here are my concerns/questions on the cabins: I don't want to feel isolated or alone. I want to feel like I am at a resort not a cabin in the middle of nowhere. I do like the activities for the kids (campfire, movie, petting zoo etc). How far is it from ost cabins to the pools? Are the pools nice? Just how bad is the bus service? How is the boat to MK? Is there a map with the layout of the cabins that Disney could mail us?

Are there any other options for 6 people?

I don't personally know you, Gupsmom, but I feel that your family would like, no love, the Animal Kingdom Lodge. You could get a deluxe room, even though it only holds 5, but if your littlest is little... well... I think she would fit. They have this great fireplace in the lobby that is off to the side, in this quiet spot, right upstairs from the Vic Falls Bar (where they make the best Daqs!)... Even though two of the chairs this past week were taken by the same couple (how rude!), I'm sure that you could find another couple to sit and sip drinks with and talk about the day, and what to do the next day...

I just don't think anything could possibly compare to AKL. Just my Humble Opinion.

A stranger. ;)

Thanks. I've read that FAQ before. It is somewhat helpful, but I'm looking for more personal experiences with my questions...if anyone has any?

We have stayed at thte cabins and they are very nice if you are looking for that camping/cabin feel. It's great to make your own meals and to have houskeeping run the dishwasher for you. However, we did feel secluded. If you are looking for more of a resort feel, you may be disappointed with the cabins. The pools are equivalent to the quiet pools at the moderates. Plain, nothing fancy to them. Depending on where your cabin is located the pool can be convenient. I persoanally, found transportation to be more of a challenge at Fort Wilderness. Don't get me wrong, I love Fort Wilderness. But we go with a "camping" attitude. Now that my kids are older, they are more into people watching and they like the feel of resort rooms instead of the seclusion of the cabins.

We used the cabins when our four kids were younger to have the extra bedroom to put them to bed in and be able to say up. And they were nice for a quick breakfast in the morning. They were wonderful.

But if I remember right you are somewhat isolated and would have to take an internal bus to get to most activities. We liked that "all alone" feeling though so it was okay for us, and we didn't spend much time there.

You don't say how old everyone in your party is, but if it was all adults/teenagers, you might want to consider connecting rooms. That is what we do now that the kids are older. It gives two bathrooms and puts you a little closer to the action at many of the resorts.

If you look at a map of the resort, you might get a better idea.

Good luch with your decision!

I haven't stayed at Fort Wilderness cabins since the mid 90's but I do remember having a good time. We never seemed to far from the pools and we always rented bikes too since there was plenty of places to ride. The boat to the magic kingdom could get crowded in the morning but on the whole there never was a real problem with them running on time. The internal bus system worked pretty well and you can rent golf carts to use within the camp ground. Sometimes the buses to other parks took some time but I suppose that is something you would get at any resort. I hope that helps.
