Wilderness Cabins - Warning!

I really wish there were two booking categories. 1 for people that can tolerate pets and a 2nd for those that cannot do to allergies etc. Dander will most likely remain in the room and vents no matter how well the cast member cleans.
Keep in mind that a service dog could stay in any room in any resort at Disney, DVC or not. Those with allergies to animal dander need to request a Deep Cleaning for Allergies when booking any room onsite.

The 4 days I was there, I would guess that half the people in my part of the loop had dogs. I personally would not stay there if I or someone in my party did not have a dog. There are so many other rooms to choose from in the DVC portfolio that have "better" amenities and location. I suppose if you just want to try the Cabins, it's best to do it sooner rather than later, since they still have the new car smell. I imagine the Cabins will likely be chronically filled with people with dogs because we don't have any other choice in DVC.

I'm not sure about that. OKW has one of the best pool slides imo.

It's an old joke from the early days. People who bought in early used to say that OKW would be their retirement home. In fact one person who loved OKW so much used to make fun of the smaller villas at BWV by stating 'you could sit on the balcony at BWV and reach into the fridge to get a beer without getting up'.

In fact, when I bought my BWV points my friend who owned at OKW couldn't understand why I would want to buy BWV! Later on they sold many of their points to buy at BWV, BCV and AKV. In the year 2000, you had 2 choices on property - OKW and BWV. The other resorts were the beach resorts, HH and VB.

The slide is wonderful, but it was added later.

Afterwards, we went over to SSR to meet with our guide. He said that the cabins are a “different type of DVC product” that won’t appeal to a lot of current owners. But, as I explained in my other post, they do appeal to us for a very specific type of trip that is not park-centric. We would have been bringing our camper, and now instead we will be staying in a cabin and we are very excited.
The fact that they don't seem to understand that many DVC owners would be interested in the non park-centric offerings of such a resort as the Cabins at FW and seem to be marketing (or not marketing) accordingly is concerning.

And you could clean all the glass with just one paper towel. Remember his posts well!

And to be clear, DVC deluxe is different than Disney deluxe which is different than the standard for deluxe outside of Disney. No Disney deluxe resort, DVC or otherwise, has anywhere near the amenities of actual deluxe hotels like a Four Seasons. We know this, it doesn't need to be brought up constantly.

An issue with the cabins is they are being marketed as a deluxe villa resort like all other DVC properties, but are missing key amenities that DVC members expect.

Dog culture really has gotten out of hand.

We love dogs but we have someone in our party that is allergic and the last thing one wants to deal with on vacation is getting a rash and constantly itching.

There are many others that have it much worse than our situation. I was just hoping for a separate booking category to help alleviate some stress.

Thanks to @CarolynFH for reminding me that it probably doesn't matter as much with the point she made but it would still be nice to have a separate category as it would limit the amount of requests for the deep cleaning even if people with service dogs came. More importantly I'm off the hook when I say I booked the dog free cabin if someone starts itching!! :rotfl2:

Having a separate category (ideally, an entirely separate loop or series of loops) be dog-friendly would be ideal. Those of us with allergies or who simply don't wish to be around dogs can book the other category. Making every cabin dog friendly is great for people who wish to travel with their dogs but poor for everyone else.

We stayed in the new cabins and absolutely loved it. It provides something that no other DVC does which is dog friendliness. To be able to bring my dog, I willing give up all the amenities that people complain about. After all, this is the campground. It's not like they put these rooms in the Riviera or Grand Floridian. To ride around in the golf cart, with my pup and his ears blowing in the wind brings me so much joy. The experience of riding into town for drinks or Hoop dee doo is just like no other at Disney. I think you either dig it, or you don't. There's a certain small community feel at the fort that is sometimes missing in modern life. I came away longing to go back.

If the maintenance fees weren't so high and the new points system so restrictive, I would definitely buy in. It's not all loss for DVC since having these cabins makes me value my DVC membership more. I am more inclined to to purchase more points elsewhere and use them for the cabins. The cabins are such a small proportion of the overall DVC rooms. I'm so grateful for this new option.
This was us too! We stayed in the 2500 loop over Labor Day weekend and absolutely loved the new Cabins. We got purchase info from our guide as we'd love to add on here, but in the end, the dues and restrictions were just a bridge too far. That said, we look forward to getting in and using our points here when we can.

I think that these will be much more appealing to those like us who can drive to WDW. Having your car right outside your door was extremely convenient. As to laundry, I consider the cabins sort of "super studios", and like studios, you will have to go to a central laundry facility. Not a big deal at all to us.

I think the point of it being a campground is also lost on a number of people. If you haven't stayed in a campground before, it's different than staying at one of the hotel properties. There is both good and bad to that, but man, if you enjoy the Fort culture, it's an amazing place to be.

I agree - I’d like to see separate booking categories and separate loops for dogs. Maybe as they declare more cabins into the trust they’ll be able to separate them out like that. Making separate booking categories would not require them to change the points costs (example, the BWV split of Preferred into BW View and P/G View).

2500. But look at the map. I believe the 2200 and 2800 are the only other loops open so far. Avoid staying near Peacock Pass if possible.
We stayed in the 2300 loop in a new cabin. We heard no construction noise, but we did hear some street noise from the busses since we were at the end of the loop.

We just got back from stay also in 2300 loop. I agree with OP, ... we were in the back of the loop, but if you're near peacock pass ( entrance and exit to loop) you would hear the construction from across the street. In a few weeks they will probably be done so this post won't age well, but still a good idea to keep up on where they are doing construction ...

Rooms were cool! Our grill was pretty rusty, took 3 tries to get housekeeping to come out and scrub the rust off so we could cook on it. (they kept bringing more grill utensils)

There's a fan in the bathroom/living area that runs constantly. Couldn't figure out if could turn it off ... I think this was posted somewhere or on a video... I don't remember what the answer was. Bothered wife, but not enough to bother me enough to look further into it :).

We will stay again for sure. Great cheap option for extra space and full kitchen.

Have Fun!

There is a touch sensitive button near the light switch in the Bathroom that turns it off. Found it after some searching.

That said, it's motion sensitive, so if you get near there, it comes right back on...

I had posted about it on another thread. There is a bathroom fan that can be turned on and off, but you most likely were hearing the dehumidifier above the bathroom door. It is a louder than the fan and can't be turned off. Ours was super loud, but didn't bother us since it was in the bathroom hallway.

I agree. I requested a pet free cabin due to severe allergies. We could not get into our cabin until well after 6 pm, after waking at 4:30 am to travel. They really need to make pet versus pet free a bookable category. Most hotels offer this.

In case a service animal (vs. a pet) stayed in your room before you, you might request a Deep Cleaning For Allergies when you book.
