During early June of 2014, during a stay at OWK, our ground floor villa was at the north end of building 25. We had a nice view of the golf course, all along the 6th hole, from the set of windows. Two of our sons, one a recent college grad and the other in middle school, saw a "troop" of monkeys!
We had forgotten about this strange sighting, partially dismissing this as a mistaken spotting, until discusing this incident this evening.
My wife and I had doubts, especially since we were coming back from DTD and weren't there to witness the event. They claimed that these monkeys were running along the fairway at great speed, and eventually disappeared out of view toward a sand trap.
When mentioning this to the young lady at the front desk, later that day, she was amused and said she'd never heard of such a thing. We left believing (at least I did) that the boys had seen something different..
This evening I looked more into this and discovered the following article from the Orlando Sentinal, from early 2012. I've discovered that there were rhesus monkeys brought to the Silver Springs Park in the 1930s, and this troop was situated on an island location in the middle of their Jungle Cruise attraction, on the Silver River. They didn't realize these monkeys were excellent swimmers and soon escaped. It seems from the article that they've been spotted throughout Florida and have been thriving.
THE QUESTION: Have any of you seen these animals at WDW?
