Wild bear in Magic Kingdom forces multiple ride closures at Disney World

The American black bear is rarely aggressive. But obviously the best course of action is to capture it and not let visitors in the area since they can still be dangerous if they're cornered and might just want a way out.

Wow!! I didn't even know there were wild bears in Florida. Glad they were able to safely move her.

This management area is in the north though.

Black bears are mostly harmless, not that you want to tangle with one. When we lived in New Hampshire, there was at least one that lived close to us (as in, within a couple miles). One day, he was photographed, peering into the windows of the optometrist--I wonder if he needed new glasses? This was in a plaza that backed up to a nice wooded area.

One day, I had my young kids out in the front yard, on the trampoline. A guy pulls into my driveway and says, "I want you to know--I just saw a black bear run up your next-door neighbor's driveway!" Okay, kids, let's go inside for a bit!

Yes, a lot of the news articles and funny memes about this are showing a brown bear, i.e. grizzly bear. A Florida Black Bear is nothing like that - not nearly as large nor aggressive. Of course, don't go poking at one, but generally they are pretty chill.
