Does anyone know if there is a version of this new trek where you do NOT have to walk across a suspension bridge? I hate heights, but I am also not likely physcially capable of doing this bridge. I'd love to do the rest of the trek IF I can avoid that bridge that I've seen pictures of!

There are reviews of both tours on allears.net- they're both under the one heading- I'm really intrigued by this, I have to admit

Both tours? I'll have to go check. I only know about one tour. Unless you're talking about a tour for the disabled?

They are doing a version of the tour that Omits the "adventure" part with the harness- according to the review, it appears to b completely w/c accessible.:goodvibes

Hmmmm... I wonder if my family could do the regular version and just me do the accessible version? I don't want to make everyone miss out on the bridge, just me!

Not sure; there is no a different price listed though. I should mention that the individual using the w/c was in a manual chair and may have transferred to the safari vehicle- that part is not specified.

Thanks for sharing. I think this will be something we will check out for our next trip. It's a good feeling to know it's wheelchair accessible.

I'd be interested to know if there is a w/c accessible version but it seems impossible as you're going through vegetation and travelling on dirt vs. concrete. ????---Kathy

This version is not accessible according to the DIS site blog.

Here’s a link to the allears.net blog about the Wild Animal Trek.
This is a link to reviews of the Wild Animal Trek on allears.net The first review is talking about an accessible tour, so it is possible that Webmaster Kathy, who reviewed the Trek for the DIS site was looking at her own tour and indicating it was not accessible, since it did include walking, bridges, etc. It’s also possible that the first reviewer was actually on a different tour entirely, like a VIP Safari that is mentioned on the official Disney site.

The Disney official site is not particularly helpful and gives no information about accessibility. From what is written on that page, it appears they have lumped together several different tours on that page under the heading of “Wild Animal Trek.” I would suggest calling the number listed on that page to ask which tours are accessible: (407) WDW-TOUR or (407) 939-8687

There is also a tour called Wild by Design, which is accessible with advance notice. That tour is looking at the design of AK, rather than the animals, so not the same tour.

Thank you! I am going to call to ask about it. I would like to do the tour, but only if I can skip the bridge and it doesn't end up being too much for me to walk.

Phoned Disney today about the Adapted experience. There is a special number to book these tours. 407-938-1373. Spoke with Linda. Really nice. She described the "alternative tour" as they call it. Instead of going through the "forest" you go through the pangani forest trail. You have special interactions with the animal trainers at each viewing area. You get a whole lot of information that they other members of your tour who are crossing the bridge and looking at hippos don't get. You then get on the truck for the safari part. She said you would have to be able to walk 100 feet to get to the truck. Then there was the snack at Boma. I asked her about the kind of ground you'd be walking on -- she thought it was grass. I asked her about having to step up into a truck. She discussed this with "management" and called me back. She said that there was no step up into the truck -it is flush with the loading area and you just walk on. It is a three hour tour and the cost for the alternative tour is the same - $189.00 - at this time. I know there was probably more I didn't think of. Maybe when someone does this they can take a picture of the truck and accessibility of the boma viewing/snacking deck. Hope this is helpful for some of you.
Have fun!

Thanks, zaksmom, for what you were able to find out.

We were on the tour in April and because I was in a w/c, I didn't go. Reason was yes there is a handicapped version BUT the entire group must take it, you can't split up on same tour. So I sat it out and rest went on it. All agreed it was the best ever! The suspension bridge had you buckled from your harness to a wire at about shoulder height (just in case you missed a step and slipped)
