Good morning fellow Disney Geeks! :)

Have any of you ever done the Wild Africa Trek at AK?

Is it worth it? I'm considering surprising my daughter with it when we go in November. She'll be 10 by then.

Would love any feedback and tips. TIA!

We did this in July and Loved it!!!! Yes its pricey, but we love animals and I feel it was totally worth it. So much so when we go back I am thinking of doing it again. You go through part of the woods and meet up with a few people and talk about the Hippos and Crockadiles and then cross the rope bridge. You also get your own truck to take you on Savannah and they stop so you can talk about the animals and see them with binoculars. After that you have lunch at the pavilion on the Savannah, Loved it!!! If you go Enjoy we did :):thumbsup2:)

Thanks so much for the feedback Louey! We are huge animal lovers as well so I'm happy to learn it was a great experince for you.

I'm booking it!! :D Can't wait!!! Now to try and keep it a secret until then...lol

No Problem, we booked the morning tour because we wanted to beat the heat since is was July. It shouldn't matter for you since your going in November.
We always try to do at least one new thing when we go, we've done Discovery Cove (Loved), the Firework Boat Cruise, and Africa Trek. I don't think you will be disappointed. Enjoy have fun :cool1:

You all will love it! :thumbsup2

I took it last April, and was impressed. I have never been a big fan of Animal Kingdom, and wanted to see the park more in depth. As PP said, you really do get up close to the animals. It is fun and relaxing.

I thought about taking it again this coming trip, but scheduled a different tour at AK to see something different about the park this time! ;)

I haven't done the Wild Africa Trek yet but I would love to do it some day.. I've read mostly positive reviews and feel that the expense is justified for the once in a lifetime experience. (for those of us who can't afford a safari in Africa).

Thanks MADnNOLA! Good to know that even a non-animal lover enjoyed it. :)

I will definitely do the morning because there would be more chance if the animals being up and about. And it would be a fantastic way to start the day.

Not to wish my life away, but November can't come soon enough! lol

If you do a search on it you will find lots of threads on the Trek. I don't think I really ever saw anything but people saying to do it. I know we really liked it and was probably my wife's favorite time of Disney almost.

Good afternoon !
My DW and I did this last September 2013 and felt it was (for us) the best tour we have ever had at WDW. I believe we have done a total of 13 different tours through-out the years. Back in the day, Keys to the Kingdom was an awesome tour for us but this one put the our new No. 1 tour solidly on Wild Africa Trek.

If I may, let me also give you a couple extra insider information.

1 - Depending on the time of the year, they offer $50.00 off the regular price of $189 if you book after 12noon. Please also note that certain times of the year, they raise the price to $249. We were able to get the $139 rate for booking at 1230pm. They do take AP, DVC, Disney Visa discounts if the $50 is not on at the time.
2 - Usually 2 of the guides have Nikon SKR's and capture a ton of your moments both as a group and individually. I believe I had close to 300 pictures from their website after our tour. They also take pics of you based on your requests as well.
3 - Be prepared to just have fun, enjoy the commentary by your guides as you go on your tour. You are equipped with not only your safety / harness vest but also a personal radio earpiece so you can hear the guide talk as you walk on the trails.
4 - My DW had a few food allegies and Disney was absolutely great at accommodating her food allergies with lunch on the Wild Africa Trek Savannah Terrace / Viewing for lunch. Please let them know in advance of any allergies as they will make sure to alter the lunch for you. By the way, great meal too.

Have a great time !

definitely worth the money. A few things, they will weigh you so if you don't like people knowing what you weigh, be warned. You are not allowed to take anything with you expect for what can be clipped to yourself so if you have a very good camera that you put around your neck, you're not taking it. Nothing is allowed in your pockets. Of course they have a photographer with you the whole time who takes pictures. Make sure you ask him/her to take a any pictures you want, for instance we were at the crocodiles and we asked her to take a few extra pictures of ourselves.

Wow! Thanks for all the great tips! I was told our price will be $189 since we are going in November. Will definitely ask about the $50 discount too!! I love that they have photographers who go as well. Are those pics included in you PhotoPass + package??

I do believe this will be the highlight of our trip. :D

The lifetime memory for me ...looking through the binoculars into a lionesses' face and seeing it so clearly I could see her eyelashes That's a picture that will forever be in my mind :goodvibes

Speaking of pictures the CD you will get will have your individual pictures on it, and some stock animal photos but also everyone else that happens to be in your group Be friendly, but don't be shy about requesting shots of you and your family The more you request the more you will have as they are extremely accommodating It has nothing to do with photopass its a seperate CD included in the Trek price and you'll get it in the mail fairly soon after your adventure :-) I made a relative a great Christmas present that year, she still loves it, took the CD to Wal-Mart and made up a safari type book...much cheaper than through Disney

This is by far the best money I have ever spent and its been a few years but I can't wait until I can do it again I did have a small point/shoot camera with me and got some awesome pictures

I took my DS on this tour last year and it was the highlight of our trip. Is you have a camera on a leash that can be attached to your vest you can take it with you on the tour. I provided lunch was very good, they also accommodate special diets. We would do this tour again.

My DH, two DDs, and I took the Wild Africa Trek in 2012 and it was amazing. The girls still talk about it. Sounds like you've decided to go for it. It's totally worth the money, you'll have a great time. :thumbsup2

Spend 10 minutes on the boards and get all the ideas I need for my next trip. My sons graduating high school this year and I thought of doing something at Ak because he loves animals and it's his favorite park. This tour would be awesome to do. Although the whole FP+ system has me worried, and we're contemplating a cruise or a dude ranch, if we decide to go to WDW, I will definitely book it. What do they offer for lunch on the tour?

Thanks.

I have asthma and must keep my rescue inhaler on me at all times. Anyone know if they will make an exception to "nothing in your pockets" for my medication? I don't see how I could clip it to anything.

I would call and ask them about the inhaler. I just looked at one of my pictures of the vest and there is a little pocket. I just remember asking if I could take a little round thing for my pills and they said no. It is too dangerous for the animals if it does fall out.

with regard to a small camera, it must have a strap on it so that it can go on your wrist.
