I am taking a solo trip to Disney next month and am thinking about doing the Wild Africa Trek in AK. Has anyone done this tour solo? What was your experience?

I did the Backstage Magic tour solo last year and had a blast.

Did tour solo and really enjoyed it. I felt my interaction with guides was much better than other guest because I would let others go ahead and often times would walking with or directly in front of or behind guides. Since I was alone, guides would strike up conversations with me during times others were interacting with their touring partners.

I haven't done this solo but our group had a few solo members on it in Dec 2013. Because the group is so small, I found there was a lot of interection between people. It's a fantastic tour IMO - go for it. You'll love it.

Thanks for your replies. I just finished booking my Trek :) So excited...can't wait.

Similar to kiford, I wasn't solo for this tour, but we had some solo members in our group. I think this is a great tour for solos as the groups tend to be a bit more engaging due to the structure of the tour. We has an almost full tour and everyone was talking with each other. Even some of the more shy folks were having a blast by the time we were clipping on to the safety ropes. During the meal break they'll probably sit you with others, but there is plenty of time to walk around the dining look-out and use the binoculars. We were a pair and were seated with another couple and had a great time. The guides also act as photographers during the tour and will take additional pics during the food break. I've done numerous tours including the Epcot Segway, Fort Wilderness Segway, Steam Trains, Keys to the Kingdom, and Marceline to Magic Kingdom ... but the Wild Africa Trek is still my favorite!

This is something I have always wanted to do! I will be solo in November and will be there for 10 days, so I really want to take a day to do a tour. I've done Keys to the Kingdom and loved it. But the Wild Africa Trek sounds awesome! I saw that the price varies on season and can range from $189-249, so i am not sure what to expect for the price during November. I am kind of looking to do it on Veterans Day when the parks are most likely going to be crowded. For $189, it seems worth it. Not sure if I'd pay $249.

I think in previous years the price of the trek would go back up to $249 around late Oct / early Nov. I took the tour near Halloween and the guides said most of the tours were full or near full as the prices were increasing at the end of that week. $200+ is steep for a tour and for me sort of a mental barrier even if I have the cash ... but it is an amazing tour.

For a most 'bang for the buck' situation ... I really enjoyed the Marceline to Magic Kingdom tour. I remember it being very reasonably priced. I was concerned it was going to be a Keys to the Kingdom 'lite', but it covered topics and the MK from a different perspective. Several in the tour including myself had previously done the Keys tour, and still found the Marceline tour to be very enjoyable.

Wow, I did not think it would $249 in Oct/Nov! Guess I'll have to see. Do you have to book at 180 days? The Marceline to MK tour sounds nice! I also am interested in Behind the Seeds at Epcot since it is only $20 and not a very long tour and you can sign up that day.

Has anyone done the Undiscovered Future World tour? What about the AKL nighttime safari?

I wouldn't worry about the trek 180 days out. You're probably good giving a call around 100 - 90 days out to see what the price is looking like as they're always tweaking the price on that tour. The Marceline tour can sell out pretty early. I remember booking around 90 days out. We then had relatives that tried getting onto our tour around 60 days out and it was already sold out. I think it may vary by time of the year. Just my theory, but I think many of the tours are harder to reserve during the F&W Fest as you have more all-adult groups at WDW who have no problem spending the $$$.

Every year I'm down at WDW I say I'm going to do the Behind the Seeds! As you said, it's easy to book day of right down near Soarin' ... and every year I forget to book :headache: I even had one year where I was at F&W Fest with relatives and went off on my own to do a solo run of the F&W kiosks. Met back up with the relatives later in the day to find that they did the Seeds tour without me  (they loved it BTW). Hopefully this October will be the year I finally do it!

I was interested in the Future World tour .. but I think Future World just isn't what it used to be. Of all the tours, it seems to get the most mixed reviews. It hurts to say as EPCOT and especially Future World was my favorite park as a kid and a huge influence leading to my engineering career, but Future World is sort of hurting.

I think you need to be staying at the AKL as a guest to qualify for the nighttime safari so I haven't had the opportunity to take that tour, but I've only heard great things! I believe they've revamped and renamed the Backstage Safari tour so I may take that new AK 'behind the scenes' tour this year.
