ok.. have finally sucummed... and my son is getting a wii for christmas (what a nice mummy i am!)

Now.. I remember when we bought the PS2... suddenly we realised we needed a whole load of other things to go with it! Can some of you knowledgable folk tell me what I need!?

Do we need a memory card thingy?

We get one controller and one nunchuck - do we really need two of each.

I cant bear the thought of us trying to use it on christmas day and finding we dont have the right stuff!!!

Do we need a unit to recharge the controllers?

Any help for a technology phobe would be gratefully received!

I'm interested in this too, as we're getting a Wii and Wii fit from my Mum as a gift for the whole family....it's already wrapped and in my garage :thumbsup2 but she hasn't told me exactly what she's bought - apart from Mario Kart and a Princess game......I too am a bit worried we'll be lacking something on the day....
I think it was Nat that said Wii Play is a good game to buy as you get a controller with it:)

It is definately worth having a second controller and a second nunchuck as lots of games are multi player, thats it really.

You don't need a memory card or a charger for the controllers (they take 2x AA batteries, so stock up :thumbsup2 ). You can buy other things like a tennis racket, golf club, baseball bat etc that attach to your controller but you don't actually NEED them to play the game they are just extra fun.

I'd say you do need another controller so that you can play tennis or baseball etc against each other, if not you can only play against the computer.
You don't need to have the recharging unit but it would save you on batteries but you could always buy that later. Our batteries last quite well so have never felt the need for the charger. We also don't have a memory card but I think there is one i just don't know what its for :confused3 :confused3
What fun you are going to have on Xmas day :santa: :santa:

Yes it is worth buying the Wii Play game as it is a great way to get another controller, I can't remember the cost off the top of my head but it is cheaper or the same price as getting a controller on it's own....plus you get lots of fun games too.

Wii Play is £30 RRP whereas a controller is £25. So in effect you are getting the game for a fiver.

You can probably save a bit on eBay too....

Agree with others that Play is a good way to get another controller :)

we have the recharger unit
got it off e bay means we never run out of batteries

I got DS the park with the tennis bat wheel golf stick etc too
he never uses them

Yep wii Play for the extra wiimote and then you'll need to get another nunchuck (If you don't want to use 'real' money I used Nectar points for mine through the website)

Other than that you are good to go!

Have fun

Mario Kart comes with a steering wheel controller.

Mario Kart comes with a steering wheel controller.

I think it justs come with a steering wheel which you put the normal wiimote into - you dont get a free wiimote with it !!! The only game with a free wiimote is the wii play game !!!

Play.com have unofficial controllers for £18 each !! Ive bought my lot these and so far we cant tell the diff to the official wii motes !!

Hth x

I think the charger would be a great idea we are forever changing our batteries :sad2: and I second what the otehrs have said about needing an extra wiimote and nunchuck. We also have a classic controller which is useful if you are planning on buying old gamecube games for the wii.

The other thing that DH would say you need is a special cable (I think its an HDMI cable but I'd have to check), that runs from the wii to the tv to improve picture quality :goodvibes

can you have a PS2 skybox and Wii connected to the TV? or will it blow up! ?lol
no seriously is there usually enough socket thingys.. (wow.. im so technically savvy it scares me!)

This is possible so long as you have enough sockets on your tv. There are different ways of connecting each item to the tv, for instance with the wii you can use scart, component or svideo cables. You just need to get the right cables for the sockets on the back of your tv :goodvibes

thank you :) I usually just look at the front of the tv.
Looking at the back of the tv is for boys! :)

lol.. i knew men had a purpose! and now we know what it is ;)
