Wii balance board won't synch

Could someone with a lot of patience help me?? I'm trying to synch my balance board for the 1st time. I have mario & sonic winter olympics in, I pressed start, hit synch on board and synch on console. NOTHING. I have done this lots. Should the front of board face console? or should board face sensor bar?? What am I doing wrong. Its very frustrating. My console is under the TV in a cabinet and the senosor is on top of tv.

I've had problems like this once in a while. It seems to work fine the next day so i have n advice. actually mine is doing this to me currently. I'll try again in the morning.
