Wifi voice calls on Disney Magic?

We’re sailing out on the 5-day Western Caribbean itinerary on Monday, but my husband needs to be able to do voice calls for work. (No, unfortunately, disconnecting from work isn’t an option.)

We’re mainly worried about our two full sea days. We’ll pay for the top tier package, but would love some feedback from those with experience. How will voice calls work at that tier? Smooth, choppy, unusable?

So a couple things, generally those teams and wifi based calls do have an option you can call in with a regular phone. That is probably going to be your best bet. Wifi is pretty slow and spotty so it likely wouldn't make the best connection for calling for important things like work.

If you're able to consider standard audio only calling I'd look into your phone carrier and see if they have any cruise plans. This will be much cheaper than pay per use depending on how much he will need to be on the phone. For example, AT&T offers two levels of cruise packages. One is like $100 and gives you unlimited talk, text and 1GB of data on the ship and the other I want to say is like $60 and gives you 100 minutes, text, and 100MB of data.

Standard pay per use rates with AT&T is $3 a minute when you're on the cruise tower.

You could try FaceTime or perhaps Skype thru the ship wifi. Others have tried WhatsApp. Not very reliable though. But to do voice calls I think you would need to purchase a cruise package through your phone service. I’ve heard of them but never done it. I’ve heard it’s quite expensive. Or use the ship to shore cruise phone which costs a fortune. Or you could rent a satellite phone to take onboard.

I was on the Wish back in June and had do some VOIP work calls. The VOIP worked just fine when out on my balcony. Everything else that needed internet was absolutely terrible and I paid for the premium package.
