What is the charge for the use of wifi in the us ports? Thinking of taking my tablet to Alaska but do not know what the charge is? :cutie:

If you are using the ships internet service, it covers use in port as well as at sea. One cost:

For sailings 7-nights or longer:

Internet /Wireless Internet Access Pay as you go - $0.75 per minute
100 min for $55.00 ($.55 per minute)
250 min for $100 ($.40 per minute)
500 min for $150 ($.30 per minute)

Note: The prices above are for example only. Prices vary based on ship and itinerary, and are subject to change at any time without notice. Internet plans can be used interchangeably on laptops and desktops throughout the ship. However, plans cannot be upgraded once purchased, and credit will not be issued for unused plan minutes.

If you go ashore, you are likely to find free (or almost free) internet spots in various locations (libraries, coffee shops, etc).

We were able to use our AT&T data plan in U.S. ports. There was no need to use wifi.

If you buy the Internet package, can you use the Internet on your own device anywhere on the ship? Even your room?

When we were in Skagway a few days ago, we used the Wifi at the brand new public library -- for free. Most Internet cafes will charge you.

We had DH's I-phone with us, and tho phone service was fine, Internet speed was really slow in most ports.

BTW, Skagway is so tiny their library hours are quite limited -- they didn't open til noon but we could still pick up the Wifi outside.

We have AT&T phones for work and the kids are on Verizon. I called both of them and they said they will work, but be slow. Apparently there isn't enough numbers up there yet for them to have upgraded their systems.

A friend recommended doing what you did - go to the library if you REALLY must connect. Or, find a coffee shop like a Pete's or Starbucks type.

Just came off the Magic (so imagine it will be the same on the Wonder) and they stated that Internet is ship wide but to talk to Guest Services about accessibility in your room. On enquiring it turns out that to get wifi in your room you need to open your stateroom door as being metal it blocks the signal.

As I had no intention of sitting there with the door propped open with everyone looking in I would always just pop out and find a comfy chair in a public area though I did manage to get a signal one time out on my Verandah too the one time I tried so that might be a possibility.

Thinking about it now, I realise I took them completely at their word didn't attempt to get a signal in my stateroom with the door closed, I probably should have at least tried.

This must be new. We have been both on the Wonder and the Magic and gotten WIFI in our room. It was slow but we got it.
