Is wi fi available at dvc resorts. I received a nook color for christmas, which I am using now and was wondering if I can use it there for my trip in february. I'm pretty sure it is not, but what about in the lobby? Thanks for any help. Wish me luck with my new nook color since I'm not the best with technology. :surfweb:

There is no wi-fi unless you bring your own wireless router and create wi-fi in your room after connecting to the wired Internet (which is a pay service unless you are a DVC member).

Any wi-fi found in the lobbies of the resorts is fee-based as far as I know unless anyone has a specific different report. There was free wi-fi as a test in the Beach Club lobby for a while, but it's gone.

Just a question - why do you need the internet to use the nook? Aren't your books resident on the nook? Or does it do other things like Internet browsing?

There is free wifi at the GCV, but I assume the OP was not heading to DL. -- Suzanne

We are staying at BLT on points......where can I get Wi-fi?
We are then following this up with a cash reservation at HHI, does it mean that I will have to pay for Wi-fi because it is a cash reservation even though I am a DVC member!?!

In room internet is wired only. If you want wifi in your room, you will need to bring your own wireless routher. I've seen posts that indicate that wifi is available at the TOTWL and possibly the BLT lobby, but can't confirm that personally.

As for HHI, if your cash reservation was made by MS you will be entitled to free in room wifi.

Note that with Windows 7, most laptops can serve as wireless access points for other wireless devices, including other laptops. So in other words, you can connect your laptop to the Internet service via wire, and then configure it so that other laptops, smart phones, Kindles, etc., in your room can connect to the Internet through the laptop.

Interesting - I did not know that - we are strictly Mac users @ our house now.

I called Member Services a few months back, and they said there is free WiFi in the BLT lobby and AKL lobby for sure, but were unsure of other DVC resorts. I got a nook color also!!!

Mac also has the ability to act as wireless access point. We did this last month at BWV. -- Suzanne

Really? Now that I have hijacked the thread, I might as well ask. I just got DH a new MacBook Pro for Christmas - I haven't even touched it or looked at it. Does it have that ability built-in? I don't think my 2008 MacBook does. So tell me how to figure it out on the new laptop, please! I hate taking our Airport Express to Disney - we always seem to have some glitchy issue in setting it up!

Your 2008 Macbook probably does have the option built in. Do a search on Google for "macbook as wireless hotspot" and you'll find directions dating as far back as 2005 for the Nintendo DS.

Please remember that if you do this you're opening up potential security issues, but these same security issues really aren't that different if you already have a wireless router in your house. As a network engineer I can't stress enough that you need to understand the security options available and implement them.

Thanks. Yes, we are seriously locked down at home, so that part's not a question to me. I just never looked into it before!

I've had excellent success taking my wireless router with me, it's not that big and fits nicely in our laptop bag. We also are mac people interesting info about using the device as a wifi hot spot, I'll have to look into that. Learn all kinds of things on the Dis!

You do buy books through your Nook, but I wanted to be able to use the internet option on it and possibly do a trip report. We have a router at home so the kids can use their computers and since they are not going with us I would have to buy another router, so I don't know if I really need to do that just to be on the internet. I will have to look into it.
