Hi everyone. We are thinking (DH, ME, DS7 and DD5) of going away for a few days in late August just to take the kids and do something fun. We were going to go to Edgwood Resort Waterpark in Duluth, MN for a few days but then I got to looking on the internet at WI Dells and found some pretty good deals at Treasure Island or Chula Vista in WI Dells. Has anyone stayed at either one and what can you tell me about it. The waterparks look great at both (Chula Vista is a bit cheaper) but Treasure Island also has an indoor and outdoor Theme Park, which would be included in the cost of our room. Any info or any other ideas would be great (don't want to spend too much). Thanks.

We have stayed at Treasure Island twice and well worth the extra.

The new Mt Olympus park is fantastic. The go cart tracks have spoiled us for go carts as I don't think their is anywhere else that has tracks like they do.
There are rollercoasters for all ages.

I don't know anything about your other choice.

We would like to stay at Kalahari Water Park resort next time. We did go over their and it really reminded us of Disney theming. We only peaked in the lobby but it felt like we were in a Disney Resort.

Have fun!

Of the 2 you mentioned, there is A LOT more to do at Treasure Island than Chula Vista..especially if you happen to get some cool weather.

As mentioned, the Mt Olympus park is huge and has a lot to offer.

Another suggestion would be to check the specials for the Wilderness Lodge. They have 3 indoor waterparks as well as 3 outdoor parks....usually if you look at their website they have some great specials.

We did stay at Wilderness Lodge for a very short stay ( less than 12 hrs) at the end of March.

The kids enjoyed the indoor facilities..while DH and I slept so we could hit the road again at 5 am.

I did check Wilderness Lodge also, but they were still over $200 a night and this is during the weekday. It does look like a great place though.

My boss has stayed at Kalahari and loved it - but that is out of our budget this trip too as this is just a spur of the moment lets go somewhere trip.

Sounds like Treasure Island would be the best bet. Now to convice DH - he still thinks we should go to Duluth.

Many years ago - early '80's as my DH and I were driving from Ontario to Saskatchewan we saw the Grey Wolf and the Polynesian resorts from the highway.

Having never been to Disney and never seeing this kind of themed hotel..I wrote the names and phone #'s on my Rand McNally map in the vast blue area of Lake Michigan.

We took a few trips back east with the kids as the yrs past and on a return trip we took our old route and not Highway 2 as we had been doing.

It reminded me of the yrs earlier when I had made my notes on my map, so for our next summer trip back to Ontario we set aside 2 days to stay at Treasure Island. After researching the area and the facilities available this was the best choice for us be we could get a suite and with 4 girls in confined spaces of a car and hotels, DH and love getting a place that has a separate master bedroom, perferably with a lock :rotfl:

Wis Dells is a tourist trap...reminiscent of Niagara Falls and we have never explored the area and the river that started the whole thing. Wish we had time too because it looks beautiful...but when you have to decide between visiting family you only see every once or two yrs or looking at gorgeous rock formations..We choose family everytime.

Treasure Island and Chula Vista were some of the first hotels to offer waterparks in the hotels in the Dells, at least when we went many years ago not many of the hotels had their own Waterparks. For that time they were great parks. If nothing else, the outdoor parks are a blast there too so if the hotel ones are lame, you have choices.

Our kids want to go to the Dells but I think we might go in the winter for smaller crowds and cheaper prices.

We went to Treasure Island last year for a weekend and really liked it. Our room was nice and roomy 2 queens and a pull out sofa, also had a refrig and microwave. It was Dh,me and a 14, 13, and 7 yr old. Lots of things to do with the rides and go karts, outdoor waterpark and then after it closed the indoor waterpark and the hotel has a pool also. We let the 2 older girls go and just met up occasionally. My DH went out and got pizza and brought it back to the room so the kids wouldn't have to change and go out somewhere and wait in the crowds to eat. I took cereal and donuts for breakfast and snacks for evening, took some of the individual dessert cakes you make in the micro and everyone liked making their own and picking what they wanted. The large roller coaster is great I think it is called hades, but they also have a decent smaller coaster ( not kiddie)my little guy could ride and did about 10 times.
