Why are Sunday restaurant goers always the WORST tippers? There is absolutely no reason why they should be so I am confused. Do Sundays bring out the bleep-holes or something?

Help me wrap my head around it before I postal on someone.

ETA: OK, I know it's not Sunday, lol.

:thumbsup2Its Saturday. You can't tell whether or not people will tip you well tomorrow, but thanks for judging them in advance!

Haha... no need to be a smart (butt) :goodvibes I know it's Saturday but given that I have worked pretty much every Sunday for the last 5 years, I'd say I have a pretty good grasp of the tipping styles.

I'm just not in the mood for it tomorrow.

In my years of experience it seems like Sundays are the worst for tippers. I have no idea why??

Interesting - are they the same people over and over? I grew up in the South, and about half our congregation went to lunch after service on Sunday. For the most part, they went to the same restaurants every week...

Is it Sunday where you are? If not, don't go postal until tomorrow.

All of these Sunday diners have apparently given their money away at church. I had one couple who used to come in every Sunday and ask for me (they knew me through church) and EVERY sunday, they would leave me their change change. One time it was 6 cents. They were also very demanding, I finally decided not to take their tables anymore because it was so demeaning. 6 cents for up to two hours of my constant running, I think not.

You should have called them out loudly enough for everyone else in the restaurant to hear. Maybe they would be embarrassed enough not to return...

I used to work Sundays at the restaurant where I waitressed too, and it got to where I hated it. Some of them even thought we were "going to you-know-where" simply because we worked on Sundays. But yet they still came in and made us work. I also hated it when they left a "whole dollar" in one of those religious tracts. I could say more, but I don't want to turn this into a "religious discussion" and get points so I'll hush up about that. :)

But I sure do understand where you're coming from. It was frustrating to see them come in every Sunday, know they were going to run you ragged, and that they were going to tip very poorly.

I do have to say not all Sunday tippers are bad though, I had some regulars that I loved seeing come in the door. Simply a pleasure to wait on/talk to and they were great tippers as well.

I know some people that hate working when there are church conventions in town. They say the tips are terrible.

my 2 cents (hey, that can be my tip, too :rotfl2:)

if you're going to give 'all' your money to the church, and don't have any left to leave a decent tip at the restaurant, then don't eat out.

if the service doesn't warrant the standard tip, fine; but don't screw the restaurant staff because you're "short" the $$$

this.

if you don't have the money to tip at least 15%, you don't have the money to eat out, sorry.

also, sunday tippers are usually pretty bad, i don't want to generalize, but in my experience it was mostly the church crowd that disapproved of working on sunday. :confused3

From listening to my DD who waited tables on Sunday...

The worst ones were the ones who came straight from church.

The Sunday crowd is a tough bunch! I worked Sundays for years and it was always the longest day of the week!

It's so true that Sunday tippers are the worst, I find that the church groups never tip decent.

the only exception I've seen in person was the 'gospel brunch' on a riverboat cruise I worked many years ago..... first couple times, they tips were basically non-existent.... one of the band members overheard some of the staff complaining (after all the guests had departed); so the next Sunday, one of the band members 'casually' mentioned while he was talking that everyone should dig down deep to show their appreciation for the hard work the staff was providing, since they were 'poor' college students trying to pay their way through school.....

after that, the tips were well above the standard.... ;)

The people who come shopping at the mall on Sundays are the worst too. It is like they have gotten rid of all their sins for the week so they can start racking up new ones. A large group of Sunday shoppers are mean and nasty. You would think it would be the opposite.

Is it also because they tend to be older and don't realize that the tip culture has changed?

You beat me to it! Sunday is the worst day in my retail experience too. It's a shorter day, but it feels so much longer because the people are absolutely awful.

interesting, we seem to tip more on sundays........
