Just back from my first trip ever to Las Vegas. I've decided I'm definitely a Disney girl! I couldn't get over the number of people who brought their small children to LV. I was disgusted with the way they had to walk through the very smokey casinos with the baby strollers and toddlers in hand. Even the outside show at Treasure Island was R-rated. I felt so bad for the little boy beside me thinking he was going to see a pirate show - it was alot of women in skimpy costumes and "pirates" doing the bump and grind! I think Las Vegas is a great place for adults to let loose and have some fun, but leave the kiddos at home with gramma!

I wish people would not take their kids to Vegas.
Take them to Disney. Period.

Actually, the more people who take their kids to Vegas, the less crowded the lines will be at th world.

My parents used to take my sister & I to vegas. We enjoyed the lights and the sights, and there was plenty of stuff to do outside of the casinos. I mostly remember swimming in the hotel pool and hanging out at circus circus (the part w/ circus games and stuff for kids), so maybe it wasn't *incredibly* fun ... but we never complained!

We took our son two years ago when he was 13 and he had an absolute BLAST! He actully like the pirate show (okay he was 13, nuff said). But he loved the M and M world, we did a magic show but most of all he had a blast at Adventure Dome!

We took one of our sons to Vegas during his school break (other son in college)...we are from the East and my DH wanted someplace other than Disney as we have been to WDW many many times.

DS was 16yo and still underage and I will agree it was very hard even walking through the casinos to cut through to the road or other sights, Security was all over us (as they should be) to make sure DS was not near any machines at all.

One time DH won some money in the slots and went to cash it in...we were following him and all of a sudden the clerk in the cash window says to my DH..."get him out of here or I will not give you your money"....ugh...DS and I immediately left the area.

BUT that being said...DS did have a blast in Vegas...we went to see Seigfried & Roy (one of their last shows)...we saw FX with Rick Springfield (Jess's Girl) and that was FABULOUS and we saw Cirque du Soliel's "O"!!!

We walked into every casino we could. We stayed at the Paris. We went to the Art Museums in both the Bellagio and the Venetian. We went to the Madame Tussand's Wax Museum in the Venetian as well as rode the gondola's in the Venetian. DS and DH rode the rollercoaster at NYNY. We shopped in all the shops at Caesars and watched the fountains sing in front of the Bellagio. We stuffed ourselves with M&M's from the M&M shoppe. We ate at the RainForest Cafe and House of Blues.

And then we headed for the Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon. We were gone for two weeks and geared our vacation towards DS and what he would enjoy.

We went back again in 2004 when he and his bro graduated h.s. and college and DS was able to show older DS everything possible in Vegas. Second time we saw Celine Dion and Lance Burton. We also saw Penn and Teller.

I believe there is allot for TEEN kids to do. Just do your homework before you go and TEENS will love it. :thumbsup2

My parents did the same thing. They took my sister and I to Vegas, Reno, Tahoe. In Vegas, we always went to Circus Circus, which was really one of the only kid-appropriate things in town at the time. There were day care places in some of the hotels, too, where parents could leave us kids to be entertained while they went off and gambled. Plus, we went to the "family friendly" matinees of the big production shows (the girls covered up the important parts for those shows). I've always loved Vegas, maybe because of my early exposure to it. And now... there's just tons for kids to do there. In fact, I prefer most of the kid stuff myself now, since the returns on gambling have been so bad the past few years. :sad2:

Right under the Welcome to Las Vegas
sign should be a sign that sez
NO CHILDREN ALLOWED.
Period again :lmao:

We were there with another couple - and we both had our toddlers with us. It was a free weekend in Vegas on the company's dime - and there was plenty for us to do. We spent a lot of time in the arcades and stores. Let me extend a completely insincere apology for offending anyone with our presence! :teeth:

We have annual passes to Disneyland and have also been to Vegas with the kids tons of times. To be honest my kids are now somewhat bored with both. THey have just been to many times and they even told me they thought the pool at Mandalay Bay sucked. I couldnt believe that one. Anyway I still like Disney and Vegas I just have to find other places to take my kids for Vacation.

As long as they know what they are getting into, and will not complain about the adult oriented sutff, I don't see any problem with taking kids there.

I don't know how many times I've read about people taking kids to Disney and they don't want to leave the pool. There are some awesome pools in Vegas.

But the last thing I would want is people complainging to others there because of their adult behavior around the kids. You brought your kids to VEGAS, deal with it.

I don't think kids belong in LV either. However from what I have read people do Vegas in different ways.

We don't go to LV to shop - live by NYC. We don't go for the M&M'sw store or walk the strip or any of that crap. We go for serious adult fun. We always stay at the Bellagio - we spend mornings at the spa, afternoons gaming, a 2-3 martini lunch a fabulous dinner and more fun. I just don't see how it can be fun with kids......it is an adult playground all the stuff that you can do with kids can be done anywhere. Why oh why can't we just have one small spot on the earth just for adults??? Families have everywhere else!

Vegas of the late 70's and 80's is quite different than it is now. During that time LV was trying to be a "family" destination.....it just did not fly, now it is back to where it was originally intended an adult destination. Not a kid very friendly place.

Yep, totally agree. I don't have a problem with people taking their kids to kid-appropriate stuff, but kids do not belong on the casino floor. Also, I can't imagine why a parent would be dragging a screaming, over-tired child down the Strip late at night, but I saw quite a few parents doing just that.

It's funny you say that because living I SoCal in the late 80s early 90s,it was talked about as being an adult places..Asth 90's turned into the new millenium,it seemed to change and a lot of the commercials shown then were trying to bring in families..It does seem like it may be changing with the What Happens iVegas ,Stays iVegas campaign...
I am really sympathetic to the idea of wanting one plac that is adults only.Th problem with that,or a problem with that is that Vegas, for several years, was the fastest gowing major city in the US . Families are moving there in droves as are businesses. As California's electrical and economical woes grow, more and more people headed there..I knew tons of families that and packed up headed there.

Babies love cigarette smoke, naughty billboards, and call girl playing cards. ;)

PERIOD! :rotfl:

Didn't Vegas make the mistake of marketing t0 families once. I would have never thought it to be for families until "they" brought it up. However, I never considered a trip and now they are with "what goes on in Vegas, stays in Vegas"--so they can happily party without us. :)
