Why? Why? Why? Destory a new IPad

why would you spend 500 dollars on something just to smash it with a bat??? I REALLY don't get it....

Rocket Scientists:confused:
Their moms must be so proud

What a big waste of money. They're only giving Apple more publicity for their product thus going against the whole point them doing it in the first place.

I read a story that was on fox news about it. Below is it

After years of waiting, Apple has finally released the tablet computer fans have been panting after for years. To celebrate, a group of teenagers broke out a baseball bat and destroyed one.

The three teens purchased the iPad at a Best Buy store in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, before proceeding to destroy it on the sidewalk outside of the store. They recorded the destruction of their newly purchased gadget and posted the video to the YouTube video sharing site, where it's gone viral, having attracted nearly 280,000 views since April 3.

The Los Angeles Times caught up with Justin Kockott, the 19-year-old high school student who made the video titled "Brand new iPad getting smashed by a baseball bat." He told the newspaper, "I wanted to be the first one to do it before other people did it," adding that "it was just something to do."

"I knew some people would hate it, but I didn't think that many people would hate it," he said. "A lot of people are leaving really bad comments" on YouTube, he pointed out. Kockott told the Times he did not have anything against Apple and had actually bought two other iPads.

"I do not at all hate Apple. I love Apple, actually," he said.

Apple said Monday that it had sold more than 300,000 iPads on Saturday, the first day of availability.

Think of what that 500 bucks could have done for a charity. That kid should have been the first out of his friends to do something useful. They wanted to be the first to do it? What losers.

Just because you CAN, doesn't mean you SHOULD.

People do this all the time with the newest electronics. Not really news. This has been happening for over 10 years.

But why???? I don't get it at all.

I seriously doubt that these kids paid for the IPad with their own money either...

If they had worked X number of hours themselves to earn the $500 then turning right around and destroying that $500 would have "hurt" so to speak. I think the $500 didn't mean anything to them (i.e. they didn't work hard to earn it themselves) so they didn't care that the money went down the drain.

I noticed the same concept when I was in high school with our "first cars." Those that paid for it themselves with money earned in a part-time job took better care of their cars, drove them more responsibly, etc.

Who would you do this, maybe Im just getting old and boring however I just dont get it. And shame on Best Buy for allowing it to go on out front of its Pittsburgh, PA Store and allowing employees to watch it.

Why were they doing it?

Let's see. Not really hard to figure out
Their YouTube video has gone viral.
They are getting national attention.
It is getting posted on Disney chat boards.

Probably end up on the Today Show with Meredith asking "Why".

$500.00 to have your 15 minutes of fame? Not too bad of an investment.

I don't know how those kids paid for their iPad, and I'm sure your experience with cars is true, but:

I'm tired of reading this as though it was gospel truth. Both of my daughters had late model used cars given to them on their 16th birthdays, and they both drove and still do drive responsibly. No tickets, no speeding, no breaking the rules, just nice safe driving to school and around town throughout their teen years. OK, DD21 got a speeding ticket her senior year after oversleeping the morning of one of her AP exams, but...

I just don't think you can make that generalization to everyone who doesn't have a part time job to pay for a car. There are lots of responsible teens out there whether they work or not.

Eh, it's entertaining. It's also their money, I know at 19 I had a good enough paying job that I could buy one if I wanted it. If they want to smash something they just bought, so be it.

Amen!

I live in a community where the trend is to give the kids their first cars as it is believed that school and college prep (and first years of college) are their jobs. Most do have summer jobs for spending money, but reliable, late model cars are out of their reach, so parents help out.

All my son's friends are extremely responsible, every one of them on the honor roll and now Dean's list, none of them have had tickets and they all are meticulous in taking care of their cars.

That is a broad brush you are painting with Katie.

Why did I do so many things when I was between the ages of 18 and 24? Because I was an immature male. We do a lot of silly things.

Jason

But he didn't only buy *one*...he bought three total. :sad2:

If they buy it, they can do whatever they want with it, I really don't care...

If they stole it and did that, then there's other issues

Just wait until these kids have adult lives with bills and responsibilities. They will be cringing, too.
