Why weren't they using Fastpass?

During our recent visit we made good use of the Fastpass syatem. It really made a big difference to how much we could do.

BUT we saw so many people in queues up to an hour long at FP rides [and I'm sure at certain times of the year it would be even longer]. So, why on earth didn't they use fastpass? Am I right in thinking it's availble no matter what ticket you have? Do so many people not even know of it's existance? Or do they think it's too much hassle?

We really couldn't understand why people would queue for so long when there is no need to. Or am I missing something?

we often wonder the same thing....
some people don't use it because they don't realize they can...
others already have a fastpass for something else and so instead of organizing themselves to go on something not needing a FP in the interim period when they can't get another, they get in a long line...
we can never understand it..

for example....at AK, kililmanjaro safaris often has a 30+ standby line...
and often the FP is the same window or maybe 5 minutes more...
so we go, get our FPs and then sit down and have a bite to eat....there's the fresh fruit stand there and popcorn and soft ice cream and also a restaurant of some kind....oh...and really excellent frozen lemonades...
so we sit in the shade having our snacks and when the 30 minutes is up and our FP window has opened we head on over to the FP line, passing all those people who could have been doing what we were...
but i guess it's good they don't....it leaves more FPs for us...

It is available no matter what ticket you have, but I figure if you are only at one park for one day, you wouldn't physically fit all of the Fastpass rides into the time you have, since you can only have one at a time. Sometimes the time you get is a couple of hours away, so in the meantime, people queue in the normal way?? I don't know, just a thought.

It is something to do with the fact you are limited to how many fastpass's you can have at one time.
If you were able to have numerous FPs there would be queue's a mile long for these too because everyone would have several also.

Must admit we do not use FP as we get a GAC pass from Guest Services as our son is Autistic.

I've never seen the large tour parties using fast passes - I always assumed their entry didn't give them access to the machines.

i saw a large school party in the line for living with the land and they had fastapassses for soarin !

hi
half the time the fast pass return is already way into the afternoon by 12md! we usually head for the main rides as soon as we get there and then work anti clockwise round the parks usually waiting no more than forty minutes, it is actually time effective as you are not criss crossing the parks to the fast pass destinations. we have usually completed all the attractions between 9am and 2pm even on semi -busy days. :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

yes the large tour groups can (and do) use fastpass...
in July when the huge Brazilian tour groups come (the CMs 'affectionately' refer to July as Taco month), you'll see the group leaders putting their charges into a line for one ride and then running off with 40 tickets in their hand to get the 40 FPs for another ride, while the group is busy in line and riding the other ride...
those tour leaders have it down to a fine science, exactly which rides to ride when and which FPs to use.....and they're always on the run......

When we were there at the start of the month Soarin' was running out of FP's by 11am every day. We went to EPCOT for the afternoon and wanted to ride Soarin' again as it was our final EPCOT day. Obviously the FP's had all gone so we had the choice of queuing for 45mins or waiting for a year until we came back. We queued!

I think it is just plain ignorance in a lot of cases. In the summer, we witnessed a young girl pushing her very large mother in a wheelchair, her daughter asked why they couldn't use a fastpass to which her mother rattily replied you have to pay.

We used fastpasses on several occasions because we got a bit spoilt with wait times being minimal or walk on because we arrived at the parks early and on their quieter days. We therefore couldn't face waiting in hour long lines which is what they were lunchtime onwards.

I agree Kristie, we only fast pass the ride we love the most and then just queue for the rest. One good tip is make your way to the back of the park first as the rides are quieter as most people work from the front. We always head straight for Kraken and the Hulk at Universal and always get straight on. But then again we go in November when the crowds aren't that bad anyways
