Why we are not thrill a ride family

1. The article I noted was Cedar Point. A Thrill ride 125 feet in the air at 60 miles per hour.

Yes, it was but only 2 people got hurt and at least one of them was a spectator who was hit with flying wood from the damaged fence. The injuries were actually quite minimal especially for a ride that goes so high and fast.

You can't compare a Car with Thrill Rides. I have a lot of control in a car and have never been in an accident even though a couple drivers tried to break that streak.

In a thrill ride you have no say in the maintenance of the ride, or know if the rides to fast for the conditions, or any number of things.

I will go on thrill rides but I wouldn't blink if someone said they wouldn't because of safety.

I can't help but wonder what you did expect. I can think of a few things I don't care for no matter what the stats say but I know if I bring them up here I'll get a thread like this one.

I'll wager why most people got snarky (I could be wrong) is that they felt the whole idea of "my family doesn't do thrill rides because something horrible could go wrong" wasn't deserving of its own thread. Who really gives a rat's a** why your family doesn't do thrill rides? Don't do them then! Peace!

We got snarky because you posted/worded it in a way that was "look, see, i'm right and justified in my choice! Look what could have happened if we happened to be at that park, on that day, and chose to ride that ride, at that time, and happened to be in one of those two seats." It's not smart, it's just your preference. And a quite paranoid one at that. I guess you don't go to baseball games because you're afraid of getting hit in the head with a foul ball.

Dave, maybe I just was not thinking.......I should have known better I guess...You know me enough to know I will stand a debate. I guess I just worded a straight forward comment as to why my family etc. and didn't see it would be such a issue.

Disney and Universal are pretty much the only places I'll get on rides....I grew up in Edmonton where a rollercoaster at Galaxyland came off the track and killed a couple people when I was a kid and was kinda terrified since then.
ETA: Oddly enough apparently today is the 25th anniversary of that crash...eerie....

I trust Disney because they do so many checks and repairs so frequently that I feel safe enough on their rides...but you won't catch me on a ride at the Stampede/carnival ever!

A debate because someone's personal preference of avoiding thrill rides was supplemented with a news article? Really? Some people, myself included, just simply don't like them. I don't like plummeting down a vertical drop at high speed nor do I like inversions. I don't like the sensations I get from the experience and therefore avoid attractions of that nature. Why does everything have to turn into a debate? Sheesh.

You were correct in your assumption. You did nothing wrong. It's not an issue. I don't see what's debatable about your family's choice in attractions. You did not try to persuade anyone. I guess some people just like to argue.

I simply stated why my family won't do thrill rides that are 125 feet in the air at 65 mph supported by cables which apparently do break at least once ...

Some of you seem mad and determined to force everyone to ride these attractions or maybe its just justifying why you want to ride them, I don't. know.

Again I am sorry to the others who tried to just discuss this subject as I originally intended.

Every one please just ride what you want.

Just as you feel the responders are trying to "force everyone to ride these attractions," some of them are feeling like you are trying to convince readers that they should NOT be riding these attractions, and that they are taking their lives into their hands if they do so.

Which they are not, any more than they are when they get into a car.
