Why was my Ebates $$$ Cancelled?

I booked my Disney Resort though Orbitz through ebates back in March and received a notice back then that I'll get $12.34 in ebates $$$. Today I got an email that my reservation was cancelled from Orbitz and ebates reversed the $12.34. Scared the life out of me because there is no way I cancelled my reservation. My reservation shows in Orbitz and in MDE - PHEW. Has anyone else have this happen? I emailed customer service and I know $12.34 isn't a lot of money but still it could buy me a lunch one day at Disney!

It happened to me, too. I contacted ebates through their "where's my cash back?" link and they have already responded. They put the money back in my ebates account tonight.

Please keep us posted about this. I was planning on ordering park tickets through ebates/Orbitz but will not if this isn't resolved.

Same thing happened to me. I also emailed. Glad I'm not alone. I was also pretty freaked out since I definitely did not cancel my reservation!

This happened to me too, but I had cancelled some and had other bookings..is there a way in ebates to put in the tracking number and see better what that particualr booking was on Orbitz??

Amy, this is for reservations only. I still have the $115 showing in my account for the tickets I bought through Orbitz. That check will be mailed to me on May 15.

Plus....they have my money already for my hotel reservation so why do I have to wait for the middle of the summer to get credit for it? Anyone get a better response from them?

Can't say why you were credited originally, but you have to wait for the rebateuntil after your stay because you haven't made an actual purchase until then. What would stop people from reservations, getting rebated, then cancelling he reservation?

You don't get paid for travel things until after your travel is done. People could go on ebates purchase and then get the money and cancel the trip. This is the same as getting paid like a travel agent. They do not get paid until after the travel is done.

Well I paid in full for my vacation! People buy items and return them too so why are you credited for an item you buy? How is this any different?

It is a different simply because of the time periods involved. When you purchase something at a store, most (though not all) stores have a return policy anywhere from 30-90 days. Consequently, most cash back sites also have a hold period of 60-90 days to theoretically ensure that you keep your purchase and do not return it.

Many vacations are booked many months out, but the cash back hold periods are just 60-90 days. And most vacations are almost entirely refundable, if not entirely refundable.

So their risk of paying cash back on travel that has not yet happened is much greater than their risk of paying cash back on a purchase that you made because most retailers return policies have lapsed by the time your cash back becomes available, but most vacation cancellation polices have not.

When I was traveling for a job a couple of years ago I would book my hotels through cash back sites. I was never credited until after my stays, and never had any problems that I can remember being credited once I did complete my stay.

Here is the reply I received from Ebates:

"Your order confirmation shows "$1152.41 less $230.48 promo code". At the time this order was placed, Orbitz did not have any 20% off coupons / offers posted on their Ebates page. In the end, you do come out ahead with a 20% discount instead of 1% Cash Back."

I agree that I would rather have the 20% off than the 1% cash back, although I did think I would get a little cash back from Ebates.

Glad I got a better deal through Orbitz than through Disney and saved money that way. Now I am going to concentrate on getting ready for my trip which is in 12 days.
