Why Super Shuttle or Disneyland Express over a Taxi?

We're flying in to SNA/Orange County at 9:30 am on a weekday - hopefully after the worst of rush hour. And since there are 5 in our party, we figure a taxi (or limo) will be more cost effective and quicker than the shuttle or bus.

As I've never flown into this airport before I'm wondering how long it takes to collect baggage and drive to the Disneyland Resort area - this is especially important because I'm working on dining reservations now and need to know when to schedule lunch!

Assuming our (direct) flight is on-time:
Any ideas how long it takes from plane arrival through baggage claim and hailing a cab to arrival at the DLR area?

It's about 14 miles from LGB to DLR as the elephant flies. So that should make for a manageable taxi fare or an easy drive if you choose to rent a car.

A taxi from LGB to a Disney area hotel costs a $45 fixed rate, although you may have to pay cash to get that fare. Had to do this on my last trip to DLR when my rental car fell through.

I have the same question - we're arriving at SNA as well.

Also, does anyone know the cost of a cab from SNA to the Disneyland Hotel? I've done searches and am seeing anywhere from $33 - $50. There's only 3 of us so it may be more worthwhile doing supershuttle instead depending on cost.

We too are a family of 5, and we fly into SNA fairly often. We sometimes take a taxi but usually SS.

The advantages of a taxi are: don't have to share the ride, don't have to wait for anyone else to get on, don't have any other stops, no reservation needed.

Advantages of SS: you can prebook and have it paid ahead of time, thus saving you money and having to come up with cash; the cost is less if your party is smaller, from SNA it's quick and easy and you don't have to reserve ahead if you don't want to--it'll just save you $6 RT pp if you do. I like that you can even pay the tip before you go so it's all taken care of. Their website will suggest a tip (18%) which you can adjust or decline if you want. I always just use that and it's only about $2 pp RT, and one less thing I have to think about on my trip.

The last time I took a taxi it was $45 from the airport, but the trip back was over $50. Add another $10 or so for tip and the total cost for 5 is in the neighborhood of $105-110. SS is a given--no need to worry about the meter running up on the trip back and I know what the cost will be. For 5 it's $90 RT including tip. So...the savings aren't huge with a party that size, but it's something.

As far as how long it takes, that can vary but one thing to remember is that taxis and shuttles get to use the quicker lanes. Even in rush hour I've not been delayed by too much, but I'm sure it could happen. The trip is not very far and takes about 20 minutes usually. Baggage is quick at SNA, too, but we generally take carry-on. For us, we are generally at the resort within an hour of landing.

We use taxi service as well. For our last trip the fare was $43.50 and the ride from the DLH to SNA took about 18 minutes, we left about 4:30pm on a Thursday.

I got the code from retailmenot.com. I use code UYR59. Sometimes it doesn't show up on the site but it works when you plug it into the SS website.

Some codes allow you $2 off per person each way, and you can get that for your whole group at once. That's the one drawback with the UYR59 code--you get $3 off each way, but in order to get it per person and not per party you have to do each person as an individual reservation. It's easy, but not as easy as doing your whole group together.

One more question - I'll be travelling with my husband and 4-year old daughter. Should I also book her separately to get the discount? Or should I just book her with one of us (and forego the discount for her)?

Hmmm...does it ask for her age? If not, I'd book her separately and save the $6. If it does, then you probably have to book her with an adult.

It doesn't really ask for an age other than when putting in your list of passengers. It states ages 3 and up are an adult and under 3 is considered a child. So I guess it's okay to book her separately then?

Yep! I always booked my kids separately. They started going at age 4.

We are arriving about 8 pm. I don't want to take forever to get to the park. TIRED!

DL express runs on the hour so we would have to wait until 9pm

We are coming in LAX and out LGB this time can you do a shuttle "round trip" like that?

Karmel looked the cheapest any thoughts on using them?

Taxi seems easiest and quickest but I don't want to pay a fortune.

What am I missing here: when I check the SuperShuttle site it says that the first person is $25 and additional guests are $9. Is that right? So that would mean that our party of 5 would be $61 + tip?

Why is the first passenger more?

Its not necessarily that the first person is more... but that additional passengers are discounted to encourage group travel.

I just checked the SS site and they are charging from LAX to Disneyland $38 for the first passenger and $9 each additional.

Then for Disneyland Hotel its $16 per person flat rate.

Prime Time Shuttle is $15 per person flat rate.

We are debating btw a taxi and SS - our DD is 6 - can she ride in a taxi without a booster? We didnt want to have to bring ours since we are not driving at all on this trip.

I wonder if the taxi rates have come down? We took a taxi last week for our family of 5. It cost $40 from SNA to GCH and $32 from GCH to SNA. I've paid much more than that in the past--$45 from the airport and $50 back.

I did just find out this trip that you can ask at GCH for a taxi voucher that gives you a flat rate of $32 to SNA, which is great news!

Our trip back to SNA today (sniff, sniff) from the Homewood Suites in Garden Grove was $37 + tip and pretty fast! We used the same taxi company both times. Both drivers were very friendly, vans were nice, I honestly can't think of a single complaint.

We decided to use American Limo this trip. I hate waiting for DRE for 55 min (we miss it by 5 min then have to wait for the next pickup), then the driver is always totally cold and lame. I am willing to pay the extra $100 for comfort, convenience, and TIME.
